. EN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 25, 2010
TC: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Sue Iverson, Acting City Administrator
Greg Hoag, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Appointment of Max Arvidson to the Position of Public Works
Maintenance Worker
BACKGROUND
The City recently completed a recruitment and selection process for the vacant Public Works
Maintenance Worker position. The interview panel consisted of; Greg Hoag, Sue Iverson,
Joe Mooney, and Bill Dircks from the City of Little Canada. The top candidate was
determined to be Max Arvidson. Max has been one of our Seasnal Maintenance employees
the past two summers. Max was a valuable employee the past two summers, he primarily
worked on our sewer cleaning and televising crew the first year. This past summer Max
worked primarily as one of our sump pump inspectors. Max has proven to be a very reliable
employee and acted as a leader with the other seasonal employees. Since completing his
position this past summer, Max was recently hired to a permanent Public Works position
with the City of Stacy, where he has used many of the skills he had learned while working for
Arden Hills.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that Max Arvidson be appointed to the position of Public Works
Maintenance Worker at a starting wage of $17.44 per hour which is the starting step in the
current labor contract.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to appoint Max Arvidson to the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker at a
starting wage of $17.44 per hour, contingent upon successful results of a background check
and pre-employment physical.
