While the statistics and information provided thus far in this memo have only accounted
for our regular full time maintenance employees, it should be noted that our six regular
seasonal employees as well as our 1/2 time sump pump inspector logged an additional
3,670 hours during the summer of 2009. The hours the seasonal employees logged are as
follows:
• Parks-21299 hours
• Sanitary Sewer—829 hours(570 directly related to I& I mitigation)
Streets—223 hours
• Vehicles & Equipment— 88 hours
• water— 110 hours
• Surface water—30 hours
• Special Projects—83 hours
• Other 8 hours
While seasonal employees provide a supplemental work force to our regular employees
primarily during the busiest months of the year(late April-mid September) they are not
the entire answer to completing more tasks and projects. Many of the projects and tasks
in the Public works Department require the use of specialized larger equipment. To
operate this equipment one must have a Commercial givers License with the proper
endorsements. There is also specialized training and licensing requirements in many of
the Public works functional areas, these include: Wastewater Collections System
Operators License, Water system Operator License, Pesticide Applicator, and Tree
Inspector, just to name a few. To obtain these licenses special training and testing is
required. Seasonal employees typically do not hold these types of licenses.
The information that was used to produce this report will continue to be gathered each
year. It is expected that continual review of the types of tasks completed each year as
well as the amount of time it has taken to complete the tasks will become the framework
to long term departmental efficiency review.
