Assists the Public Works Director with implementing policies, procedures, and practices <br /> that improve the day-to-day operations of the department. <br /> Assists the Public works Director with the purchasing of Public Works related items that <br /> abide by the City's purchasing guidelines and budget limitations. <br /> Assists the Public Works Director in ensuring that the City is in compliance with all <br /> applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances. <br /> Assists the Public works Director in developing annual and seasonal work plans. <br /> Performs other duties as-apparent or assigned. <br /> Provides work direction to all employees in the Public Works Department. <br /> Responsibilities include: training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; <br /> assisting in evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. <br /> Responsibilities also include the ability to effectively recommend hiring; rewarding; <br /> transferring; promoting; disciplining, suspending; demoting and discharge of employees to <br /> the Public works Director <br /> QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS <br /> To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty <br /> satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, <br /> and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals <br /> with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br /> MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE <br /> High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five (5) years progressively <br /> responsible related experience in the Public works field, including a minimum of two (2) <br /> years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. <br /> DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE <br /> Post Secondary education in the Public Works or Construction field. Ten (10) years <br /> progressively responsible related experience in the Public Works field, including five (5) <br /> years leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. <br /> LANGUAGE SKILLS <br /> Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance <br /> instructions, repair manuals, blue prints, plan sheets, and procedure manuals.
