Wild Turkey Control in Urban Areas (continued)
Mayor Harpstead stated if Council did not obj ect then Staff would be directed to move forward
and explore what needs to be done. He also stated he is not interested in completely eliminating
turkeys.
Acting City Administrator Iverson clarified the resident is asking for a permit to remove only
those turkeys in her yard.
Councilmember Holden clarified that she would not agree with completely removing all the
turkeys from her yard.
Councilmember McClung stated that the resident is doing something or has something on the
property that keeps the turkeys returning and staying on the property. He stated that doing this
one time would probably not resolve the problem long term. He also stated that he does not agree
with removing the turkeys. -
Councilmember Holmes stated she does not have a problem with Staff talking to the resident to
try and find a solution but if this is authorizing Staff to go to the next step a get a permit from the
DNR then she would not support this.
Mayor Harpstead stated he would be for letting Staff see if they could get a permit and do
something to help this resident.
Councilmember Grant requested Staff contact the resident again to find out if the turkeys are
still an issue and get back to Council. He does not want to give Staff full authority to go ahead
with getting a permit at this time.
The Council agreed with this direction.
MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember McClunLy seconded a
motion to extend the meetin to 10:30 p.m. The motion carried unanimously -
4-1 .
Ayes: Mayor Harpstead, Councilmembers Holmes, Grant, McClung
Nays: Councilmember Holden
Mayor Harpstead suggested that item 7I be up next.
I.
