EN ILLS <br />- ..� _ _ <br />MEMORANDUM <br />Date: March 29, 2010 <br />TO: Mayor and Councilmembers <br />Acting City Administrator Sue Iverson <br />FROM: Rebecca Brazys, Deputy Clerk <br />SUBJECT: Fishing for Life Gambling Permit <br />Background <br />The City has received an application from the Fishing for Life organization for an Exempt <br />Gambling Permit for a fundraising raffle to be held Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at North Heights <br />Lutheran Church, 1700 W Highway 96, Arden Hills. <br />What is an Exempt Permit? <br />This form of approved charitable gambling approved by the State Gambling Control Board is <br />applicable to nonprofit organizations that do not have an active charitable gambling license, but <br />still wish to utilize charitable gambling events for fund raising purposes. These organizations are <br />limited as to the number of exempt permits allows in a year (five) and the total prize pay out in a <br />year ($50,000). <br />Fishing for Life is an exempt organization under the provisions of Section 501(c) (8) of the <br />Internal Revenue Code. The organization will be represented by Mr. Chris Armstrong, Associate <br />Director, if the City Council has any questions regarding this application. <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that Council approve Resolution 2010-016, Approving an Exempt Gambling <br />Permit Application for Fishing for Life at the March 29, regular Council meeting. <br />
