2
The basketball court at Ingerson Park is scheduled for mainteance in 2010. Staff inspected
the Ingerson Park court last year and discovered that this court would need a partial
reconstruct versus a resurface, as the surface had deteriorated and the acrylic surface had
worn off. Staff was unsuccessful in identifying the exact time this court last had
maintenance performed. Pictures of the current conditions are included for Council review.
The existing basketball court at Ingerson Park is 48' x 24' . It has one basket on the north
side. The partial reconstruct proposed would remove the existing asphalt, replace asphalt,
expand the court size to 52' x 3 0' and move the basketball hoop to the east side.
Expanding the court would reconfigure the existing court and create a true half court. This
will be similar to the Freeway Park court that was done last summer. The court would also
be painted in two colors, which is standard for all of our courts. The current paint has
deteriorated and is undecipherable.
Staff sought three quotes for the basketball court reconstruct at Ingerson and the results are
below:
Com an TOTAL
Tennis West — Finley Bros. Inc. $7,170
C& H Sport Surfaces, Inc. $7,850
New Iesign Did not
submit by
deadline
Tennis West — Finley Bros. came in with the low quote of $7,170. The City has worked
with this company in that past with the tennis court resurfaces at Floral Park and Royal
Hills Park in 2006. They were easy to work with and did a quality j ob. They have a good
reputation in the hard court surfacing industry.
Budg.et
Staff budgeted $15,000 for hard court and trail maintenance from the Park budget within
the general fund. The Park Fund cannot be utilized for maintenance proj ects. Although
this proj ect would be considered a partial reconstruct, it is still considered maintenance of
an existing court.
Requested Council Action
Motion to authorize staff to contract with Tennis West — Finley Bros. Inc. in the amount of
$7,170 for the partial reconstruction and resurface of the Ingerson Park basketball cour.
I IMetro-inet. us l ardenhills IPRPWII'arks 1Memos I Council Memos 106142010 Ingerson Basketball Court
Partial Reconstruction. doc
