The
Committee felt strongly that the City's parks and trails system could utilize more benches.
The City Council approved the addition of a four year park bench implementation plan and
included it in the 2010 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The City Council directed
staff to select a consistent bench style when replacing or adding benches. Staff researched
various bench styles during the Park Bench Donation Frogram review. The style chosen
was the Parkshore Contemporary Bench. This style is a comfortable design made entirely
of recycled materials, including the frames. This is an in-ground desig, which makes it
very sturdy and maintenance free. This particular bench is found at multiple vendors and
should be available for years. However, if it is ever discontinued, it is a standard design
that can be replaced by a similar model. The benches are six feet in length with cedar
colored benches and black frames. The Public Works staff will install with standard
concrete footings. The PTRC worked with staff last fall to establish locations for
additional benches and staff will utilize this for placement along parks and trails.
Bud et
The CIP includes $5,000 designated for each year from 2010-2013 from the Park Fund.
The low pricing for this bench was found at three different manufacturers with Kirby Built
Quality Products having the lowest price at $545.00 per bench. With eight benches,
including tax and shipping, the total purchase price is $5,122.01. Shipping is estimated to
be 2-3 weeks from purchase date.
Action Requested
Motion to authorize the purchase of eight Parkshore Contemporary style park benches in
the amount of $5,1 2.01 from Kirby Built Quality Products.
I IMetro-inet. us l ardenhills IPRPW1Parks IMemos I Council Memos 106282010 Park Bench Purchase. doc
