COUNCIL COMMENTS AND REQUESTS(CONTINUED)
Councilmember McClung explained that Plan C was Monday through Thursday; S:00-10:00
p.m.
startingApril 1st would cost an additional $57,009, which is a 7.62% increase. Plan D,
p
was Monday through Thursday, S:00-9:00 p.m. starting on April 1st would cost an additional
$45
,,608, which was a 6.72% increase. He indicated additional options would be brought to the
meeting as well and be broken down by each City's share, Arden Hill's being 28%.
Councilmember McClung stated he would support Plan D as it provided a decent increase in
coverage and minimizes the cost to the City.
Councilmember Holmes questioned if the City could oppose any increase.
Councilmember McClung indicated the Council could authorize him to vote in this manner, but
he would be soundly outvoted by the surrounding communities. He indicated the increase in
staffing was another phase in moving towards a full time duty crew.
Mayor Harpstead suggested the City support Plan D as well.
Councilmember Grant stated he would support Plan B or Plan D.
Councilmember Holmes noted she would be in favor of Plan D. Councilmember Holden
agreed.
Councilmember Holden questioned if the services provided to the City would be increased
through a duty crew. She suggested that all freebies be eliminated once the department goes to
duty crews as these were perks for the volunteers.
Councilmember McClung noted there was some division within the fire department on the duty
crew plan. He thanked the Council for their input and stated he would vote accordingly at the
upcoming Fire Board meeting.
Councilmember Holden suggested the City further evaluate the need to have ambulance, fire and
police services for each 911 call. This appeared to be an abundance of expenses the City was
incurring when having each department at the scene was not necessary.
Mayor Harpstead suggested the Emergency Preparedness Director be discussed at a future
meeting.
Councilmember Grant questioned if the City's emergency response manual was up to date. He
requested staff look into this issue further.
City Administrator Klaers indicated the last revisions were made in July of 2009.
