At its Septerr�ber 1994 meeting, the City Council adopted Resol�tion No. 94-47, establishing a� Employee Recogt�ition Cornmittee (ERC}. The ERC then recommended a list of programs tQ recagnize e�x�ployees for: years of service, exceptional performance and ret'rrement. In June of 2005, the Employee Recognition Policy wa� established. The 2010 ERC was rr�ade up of the following ezx�ployees: Michelle Olson, Joe Rueb, Dave Scherbel, Rebecca Brazys, Max Arvidson a.�d Sonja Klingberg. Employee of the Year The purpose of selecting an Emplayee of the Yeax is to reward employees who are adjudged by their co-workers to be deserving of special recognition for their accomplishment� and contributions ta the City. The ERC {ir�cluding Brenda Holden as the Council representative} met and followed ihe procedure below to determine the City of Arden Hi11s 2010 Employee of the Year: • Each employee was given �lie opparturzxty to nominate a City employee (or onesel� for Employee of the Year. r The following categories �epresented areas which are used to determine an Employee of thc Year. Each norz�ination zriust relate to either one of the categor�es, and shall include a descri�iion detailing the reasan for the nominatior�. 1. Exceptional Performance - Consistent high-leve� of dependability, reliabiliiy, responsibility and integrity over a period of emplay�ent with the city are items measured in this category. Recognition is given ta high quality ongoing consistent dedication to th�e City. This category also recognizes individual(s) who consistently pxoject a positive image of ihe City ar�d its services to his/h�r co-workers and the general public. Signifcant Accomptishment - Often a.n employee �s cixaz�ged with ihe responsibility or assumes the responsibility of completing a significant goal, activity, or project. Frequently the co�pletion of such a praject has a rnajor impact on the op�rations af the departrnent or the C�ty as a whole. This category recognizes emplayees fox such accomplishrnents. The ERC announced #he Employee of the Year at an all emplopee luncheon on Th�rsday, January 13, 201 i. Th� 2010 Em�loyee of the Year is Scott Freyberger fro�n Public Works. The following are a few of the co�ar�ents included on the nomina#ions for Scott: + Scott is the ultirzzate empioyee. He is motivated, dependable and a harc� worker. • Scatt works every task wiih ihe same effort, no matter what it is. • Scott has a wide range of abilities, incluaing City Forester. • Scott is always busy wiih something and is dedicated to daing what is in the besi interest a� the City. He talces it upon himself to get the j ob dox�e in the ti�e he is given. • Scott is a self-motivated person with good morals who exercises a wide range of abilities with a vast amouni of knowledge that is carried on xn his great attitude about his jab. •�cott initiated and oversaw the reorganization of all of the gardens on County Road 96. H� transplanted plants to other gardens and thinned out the baulevard gardens, creatir�g rows between plants. This became a hug� cost saving effort for the City. Siaff can now spray regularly for wee�s versus spendi�g days tzying to weed the overgrown gardens. After the project was compl�ted, the City xeceived numerous campliments on these gardens throughout the sttmme�r. Recognition for Years af Service The Employee Recognition Committee recognized four indiv�duals for Years of Service. Tkxe policy states that employees shall be recognized foar every five (5) years of ezx�.ployment wiih ihe City. Employees sha11 recexve a certificaie from the City recagnizing them far their years of service. The following employees were awarded certificates on Thursday, January 13, 2411 at the aIl employee luncheon: • Tony Nowlan �- Public Works — 5 years •�eff Frid — Public Works — 5 years • John Mennenga — Cazx�zx�unity Development — 5 years • Mike Schifsky — Public Works - 30 years Requested Council Action The Employee of xhe Year and Sez-vice Award Recipienis plan to be present at tonight'� rrieeting tp receive their awards from the Mayar.
