Resoluiian 48-450: Auihorizing ihe Applicatian for Recycling SCRE Grani Funds for 2009 in
the Amount of $19,866.00
Background
Far 2009, the City of Arden Hills is eligible to apply for $19,866.00 in grant money fram
Ramsey Count's recycling SCORE grant program. The grant can be used io offset the cast of
the Ciiy's recycling pxogram, including admirustration, equipment, and collection costs. In the
past, the City has prirrarily used the grant money to offset collection costs a.nd the twice yearly
community cleanup costs. The Caunty requires a resolution from ihe City Council to authorize
the application for the SCORE grant. The only equirerrent of the grant is that the money can
only be used for the City's recycling pragram.
The budget for the City's recyclzng program in 20$ was $116,111. The City received $20,301
in SCORE grant money in 2008, which offst approximately 17.5 percent of the base cost of the
residential recycling program. The City switched recycling providers from Waste Manageznent
to Exreka Recycing in March 2008. Althaugh the base charge for the arecycling program is
higher than in 2007, the revenue sharin with Eureka will more ihan offset the increased costs in
24a8 and is anticipated to in 2009 as well. Recycling fees, which are assessed to each
participating residential property, will cover the remaining portion of the recycling budget.
