EN IILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: August 25, 2Q08 TO: Mayor and Cty Council Ron Moorse, City Administrator FR017: Greg Haag, Pubtic Works Director SUBJECT: V4'ater Tanker Replacemerat BACKGRQllND The 2008 CI bUciget iacludes the purchase of a water tanker at a cost of $125,000. Our current water tanker was prchased in 1989 and is l9 years old. Crretly it has 31,216 miles on it_ While the mileae on this vehicle is low, the vehicle is caxastantly nning or idling while in operatian. Sozne xarnples of this are watering gardens aId trees as well as flooding skating rinks. The chassis and Qther bady components are rusted and in poor condition. The px-oposed ie water tanker wil provide nany opticns for improved efficiencies in our Public Works ope-ations. The biggest efficiency will be tha# tis truck has ve under body nozzes wlich are conErolled i th cab othe truck by the aperaor for flooding skating rinks. We will naw be able to load rinks with one person instead of the two that the current tanker needs for flooding opez-atios. These nozzles will also allow ts to pre wet streets before street sweeping to help control dust. This truek will also help in or sewer cleaning operatio by being able to be cornected to our jetter truck to provice additionai water for operatians, and it wiJl be sed to flush manlloles.
