SUBJECT: CP Rail Mnral Contest Recommendation

At the December 13, 2010 City Council meeting, the Parks Trails and Recreation
Committee (PTRC) brought forward a recommendation for the Council to allow the PTRC
to sponsar a CP Rail Mural Contest. Tk�e committee voiunteered ta work with staff ta
establish guidelines, advertise and facilitate a mural contest for the retaining wall along the
new CP Rail Trail Crossing on Old Snelling Ave. The City Council tabled the request and
asked the PTRC to bring the iiern back at a later date with more ir�forn�ation on supply
costs, winning prize specifics, liability, graffiti cancerns and maintenance.
Discussion
Staff researched furth�r information on ihe mural contest and brought the information to
the PTRC meeting in January �or discussion. The PTRC discussed the concept arid made
a motion to table tlie contest. The Committee will share their thoughts and reasoning for
this motion in their preseritation at the work session.
Requested Action
Discuss CP Rail Mural Contest Recommendation to not move �orward on the idea.
