An Arden Hills citizen spoke at the March 28th City Council me�ting about her concern with
plans for work in Round Lake. As a follow up on fhese cornments, I talked wi#h Mike Fix about
ihe situation. I then sent an e-�nail ta the Council as an update an the current situation at Round
Lake. This e-mail is attached for youx xe�erence. My e-mail states ihat the Army and the U.S.
�'ish and Wildlife Service disagree on what they would like ta see happen in the long term at
Round Lake.
Mayor Grant requested this item be put on the agenda for some Counci� discussion. It may be
appropriate to ask Mike Fix anci/ar a representative a�the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to come
to a Council rneeting ta discuss what actians or work is being planned for ihe next 6 to 12
months.

I talked with Mi.ke Fix on Tuesday, Nfarch 29 regardfng Cheryl G. who spalce abou� Round take on
Monday, March 28 under Publit Inquiries. z took the -�ollowing infarmation away from my
�onversatior� with Mike:
7he Army tooic the sedimentation samples. T�e permit to do the work was �From the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Serv�.ce. The Army is still ana].yzing the samples. After the data �From analyzing the
samples is compiled, a report an t�te data wili be produced and the report will be shared with
MPCA. After the report �.s re�iewed, the Army antica.pates getting direction fror� MPCA and EPA
to da a feasibility repor� on remedies and possi.ble action plans to implement gi�en the
env�ronmental conditz.on of Round Lake.
The Army wo�ald like the end result ta be that they could dredge the la[ce to remove PCB's and
heavy metals. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife 5ervzce would li�Ce to see a more natural habit and
�egetation co�erage a� Round lake. The Army and U.S. fish and Wil�l�.fe Service disagree on
the "ra.sks" associated with a dredging project. 7he Army and the U.S. F�sh and 1�ildlife
Servzce disagree fln what the best course of action shou�d be for the future of Round Laice.
�n about 6 months, after a feasibility study is completecl, there will be a Pubiic Input
process. The EDA will make the �inal decision on the preferred retnedy and action plan.
Disclaimer: the Mayor and Council should nate �hat this is my interpretation of what Mike
said and that sometimes l�iice gets a li�t�le too "technical" for me �rom an env�ronmental point
of �iew.
