SUBJECT: Parchase of Park Amenities — Picnic Tables

During the Capital Improvement Discussions in 20I0, the Ci�ty Council suggested adding
$5,000 for Park Amenities each year beginning in 2011. Park amenity needs change each
year. These amenities can range from picnic tabies, park bench swings, irail signage,
trash cans, benches, etc... This year, staff recommends purchasing five, eight foot picnic
tables. These tables are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990} compliant tables
made with steel frames and green expanded steeI top and seats. They axe very dur�ble and
the surfaca o� the table top and seats are thermaplastic coated, making them almost
completely vandal proof. A speciiication sheet and photo of the table is included. The
City has had past probiems with graffiti and vandalism of our wood picnic tables. Tne City
has regular rentals at Cummings Park and Perry Park throughout the springlsummer. We
have purchased five tables in the past two years to have at the two larg�r pavilions. These
tables have worked out well in the past fiwo years and ordering five this year will give us a
total of ten of these nicer tables for Currxmings Park and Perry Park. These iables are
aesthetically pleasing, durable and very comfortable for users. At their May l, 2011
PTRC meeting, the Committee reviewed the potential purchase of picnic tables and agreed
�his was an appropriate choice for this year's arnenity purchase. They suggested utilizing
the $5,000 in 2012 for trail signage, The 2012-2014 CIl' will be re�viewed and discussed
by Council at the June work session.

The CIP includes $5,000 for park amenities designated each year from 2011-2014 from the
PIR Fund. The pricing for ihese types oitables were found at three different manufacturers
with St. Croix Recreation Corr�par�y, Inc. having the lowest price at $809.00 per table.
With five tables, inciuding tax and shipping, the total purchase price is $4,681.36.
Shipping is estimaied to be 4-6 weeks firom purchase date.

SPECIFICATIONS:
• WXT Series end frames are one-piece welded canstruction,
fabricated from 2.375" (2-3/S"j O.D. x 10 ga. wa19 steel pipe
to meet 2" nominaE steel pipe size specifications with 2" x 2" x
3/16" die-formed steel angle for attaching the seats and top.
Bends are tightly formed to prevent tipping when weight is on
one side.
• The frame design �rovides the ADA recommended wheelchair
clearances under the table top af: 30" wide, 27" high and 24"
total �cnee and toe clearance (19" knee + 5" toe) at each end
of the table while maintaining the full seating ca�acity of the
table for cornmon use.

after fabrication to ASTM-A123 to maintain an average zinc
caating of 2.a oz. per sq. ft. of surface area (indicated by "/G°

• D-Type #able to� and seats are each a one-piece welded
construction, fabricated from a 3/4-�9 expanded steel surface
with 2" roll-formed 14 ga. steel vertical edges on ali sides and
reinforced by a s#rap and die-formed angle substructure.
• Standard: A13 steel surfaces of the top and seats are covered
with a thermo-�lastic coating in a Brawn color �indicated by
"DW" in madel no., e.g. WXT/G6DWj. The LN-stabilized
therma-�lastic coating is a��lied in a multi step process
of ma#erial preparatian and finisf� application designed to
permanently heat fuse and 6ond the finish to the steel. The
thermo-plastic polyethylene #inish is impact resistant, daes
not support mold or mildew, and the textured matte surface
is less suscepti6le ta marring and sc�ffing.
