EN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: September 12, 2011 TO: Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers FROM: Jill Hutmacher, Community Development Director J Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager -IV1iI SUBJECT: State of the City Event and Celebrating Arden Hills September 12Eh is"Celebrating Arden Hills"week. The City has two events planned: STATE OF THE CITY—September 14,2011 —7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The State of the City is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at North Heights Lutheran Church. The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and will be jointly hosted by the City Council and the Economic Development Commission. Although the event is primarily focused on the City's business community, residents are welcome to attend and can RSVP to City Hall. "CELEBRATING ARDEN HILLS" Fall Festival—September 17",—3:00 p.m. to dusk Save the date! September 17, 2011 is our"Celebrating Arden Hills" fall festival. Events will be held both at Tony Schmidt Regional Park(3500 Lake Johanna Boulevard) and Bethel University (3900 Bethel Drive). Tony Schmidt Regional Park will host the"Fling into the Parks"portion of the event from 3:00 p.m. until dusk. Kicking off this year's event will be the Shakopee Prior Lake Shockwaves Water Ski Show on Lake Johanna! Returning will be favorites such as the rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline event, miniature golf,pontoon rides, community booths, Mad Science presentation, Splatter Sisters as well as the Shoreview Northern Lights Variety Band. Fireworks will cap off the event at dusk (approximately 8:00 p.m.). There will be limited parking at Tony Schmidt Regional Park. Perry Park (3700 New Brighton Road) will have parking available and a shuttle will run to and from Tony Schmidt Regional Park from 2:45 pm. until after the fireworks (8:00 p.m.). City of Arden Hills City Council Meeting—September 12, 2011 Page 1 of 2 Bethel University will host the "Fling into the Student Arts"portion of the event from 5:00- 5:00 p.m., featuring student and professional art work. Music will highlight the event, featuring the Mounds View High School Orchestra and the Bethel Jazz Band in Benson Great Hall. Tour the facility and enjoy complimentary snacks, desserts, and beverages. Shuttles will be available from 4:45 p.m. until after fireworks to Tony Schmidt Regional Park and back.
