HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-05-11-Truth in Taxation lt ,- I�EN HILLS Approved: January 9, 2012 CITY OF ARDEN HILLS,MINNESOTA TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING & PRESENTATION DECEMBER 5, 2011 7:00 P.M. -ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, Mayor David Grant called to order the Truth-in- Taxation Hearing at 7:00 p.m. Present: Mayor David Grant; Councilmembers Brenda Holden, Fran Holmes, Nick Tamble, and Ed Werner. Absent: None. Also present: City Administrator Patrick Klaers; Director of Finance and Administrative Services Sue Iverson; Community Development Director Jill Hutmacher; and Deputy Clerk Rebecca Brazys PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: Council member Holden moved and Councilmember Tamble seconded a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously (5-0). 2. PUBLIC HEARINGS A. Truth-in-Taxation Hearing and Presentation Mayor Grant opened the public hearing at 7:05 p.m. Director of Finance and Administrative Services Sue Iverson presented the 2012 Tax Levy and Proposed Budget. Mayor Grant stated that he did receive one email from a resident who could not be present. The Mayor did not disclose the resident's name since the statements were submitted via email. This ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—DECEMBER 5, 2011 2 . resident was concerned about the following City projects: the website update, gateway signs. He also questioned whether Arden Hills pays 100% of the employee health and dental expenses, and stated that the City Council should think about cutting this back. The resident also requested that the City Council not"use the scare tactic of cutting police and fire services." The following residents addressed the council with questions: Jim Otto, 4352 Arden View Court, stated he has no comments to share but was attending the meeting for informational purposes. Mayor Grant closed the public hearing at 7:50 p.m. Discussion ensued and the Council direction was to reduce the 3.0 percent proposed levy increase to 2.15%. ADJOURN MOTION: Councilmember Holden moved and Councilmember Tamble seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously (5-0). Mayor Grant adjourned the Truth-in-Taxation Hearing at 8:16 p.m. • Patrick Klaers David Grant City Administrator Mayor •
