SUBJECT: Water Meter Readers
Background
Replacement of our current water meter reading system has been in the works since
before I started my position with Arden Hills. I have discussed this issue twice with the
Council on March 28 and July 11, 2011. Both times I was relying on staff work that was
done before I came to the City. The last time I discussed this issue with the Council (July
11, 2011) essentially I was directed to begin the process over and not to rely on previous
staff work.
For the last six months that is exactly what I have been doing with significant help from
Joe Mooney, Public Works Superintendent. We have made contact with several cities
that either have recently installed new water reader systems or are considering them in
the near future. We have also had several meetings with representatives of the two most
prominent manufacturers of reading equipment in this area, Badger and Neptune.
At Tuesday's work session we will be prepared to present our findings from our recent
investigations. We will be looking for Council direction on how to proceed forward.
