Staff met with Carol Kriegler from Vacker Inc. to discuss the trail signage design. Vacker Inc. designed and installed all of our park name signs. Staff laid out the PTRC's recommendation on signage and the proposed $3,000 budget for this project. After meeting with Ms. Kriegler, she recommended three options for trail signage. Staff presented these three options to the PTRC at their May 15, 2012 meeting and the PTRC made a motion to recommend option 2 of the proposed trail signage, the 20 suggested trail locations and cedar posts installed with concrete. The motion carried unanimously. The City Council reviewed the three trail sign designs at their May 29, 2012 meeting and agreed with the PTRC's choice for option 2. This sign is a 16" x 18" x 0.75" Bi-Color HDPE backer panel with a 0.125"polymetal panel. The sign would have a Tuff Cover protective overlaminate. The Council made a motion to contract with Vacker Inc. for the production of trail signage panels in the amount of$2,885.63 and authorize an additional $500 expenditure for City staff to purchase posts and concrete. The motion carried 5-0. The City Council asked staff to bring the mapping portion of the project back to a work session for review. Since that time, City staff has been working with Vacker, Inc. on the mapping elements. Below are the mapping elements recommended by the PTRC for Council review: 1. 20 locations as indicated on the attached map (Attachment A) 2. No mileage will be included. A scale will be included on the bottom of the map. 3. No proposed trails will be included, only existing trails. 4. 3 or 4 zoomed in sections of the map with a"you are here" arrow for each sign. 5. Each map would have a small box on the bottom of the map showing where the trail user is in relation to the entire City trail system. This would not be a very detailed map. 07162012 Trail signage design.doc The Assistant City Engineer divided the City into 3 sections. A rough print out of each section is provided for Council review(Attachment B). After working with Ms. Kriegler, it has been determined that the map area will be printed in a 13" x 13" size with the total size of the sign being 16"x 18". Vacker Inc. has provided a paper print out of one of the section maps with the actual sign dimensions. This will be available at the City Council meeting for review. Requested Action Staff is looking for input from the Council on the trail signage maps and their proposed locations in order to move forward into production of the 20 signs. 2 Attachment A : Trail Map with 20 proposed sign locations i ro TRAIL SIGN PROPOSED LOCATIONS R tlr 'f Sun Prs z M 5 Pok 2 3 I p mmau lati•el L.R. 9 1 ROJ'a( on urat[m Pmk — R 34 8 k w 14 5 7 I w1 ranrse„n;a y ( !
