Motion to award the quote by Fourth Dimension for the selected sign design in an amount not to exceed $10,100 plus applicable taxes for the cost of the sign and installation. Back�round The City Council and the Economic Development Commission have been working on Gateway Signs for several years. The installation of gateway signs is a Council goal for 2012. The 2012- 2016 CIP identifies $140,000 over three years for installation of six gateway signs. In 2012, the CIP designates $65,000 for gateway sign installation which assumes two signs at a cost of $25,000 each and a sign at Arden Plaza for a cost of $15,000 (the developer has agreed to pay for the sign base). The estimated cost also includes lighting and landscaping for each sign. At the May 21, 2012, work session, the Council reviewed the sign locations suggested by the Economic Development Committee, and provided direction to Staff on preferred design elements for the gateway sign. The Council also directed Staff to move forward with obtaining a proposed design and quote for a sign which would be located at Arden Plaza at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and County Road E. The Council's consensus was to focus on completing one sign at this location, and then working towards a possible second sign for the triangle parcel at County Road D and Lake Johanna Boulevard. At the July 16, 2012, work session the Council reviewed a final design based on their discussions from previous meetings and directed Staff to bring the sign, along with a few slight variations, to the Council for final approval and award of the project bid. City ofArden Hills July 30, 2012, City Council Meeting Page 1 of 2 Sign Options Fourth Dimension has prepared four options, which are all variations on the selected sign design which was reviewed at the July 16, 2012, meeting. The sign options are all the same price. Option #1— The original design shown to the Council on July 16, 2012 Option #2 — A vaxiation of the original which has the tree on the logo slightly off center. This option also includes a mock up of what the back of the sign would look like with the City name and logo and without. Option #3 — A slight variation on the original design that keeps the logo centered, but has the curve of the bottom of the sign mirrored at the top of the sign Option #4 — A slight variation on sign Option #3, which reverses the curve at the top It should be noted that the sign that is proposed would be single-sided and would not have the City name and logo on the back. However, the sign face material would wrap all around the sign, including n the back facing Arden Plaza. Sign Estimate Fourth Dimension quoted $10,100 plus any applicable taxes for any of the attached design options. The sign estimate includes construction and installation of the selected sign option. The estimate also includes single-sided lighting at the base of the sign. The sign estimate does not include the electrical wiring for the lighting or the landscaping around the sign base. The cost of wiring and landscaping may be brought back to the Council depending on the final estimated costs of these items. The Arden Plaza development agreement includes a commitment from Arden Plaza to construct or pay for the base of this sign; however, because of how the sign is designed and constructed separating the cost of the base from the cost of the face is challenging. Staff and Arden Plaza have discussed this, and Arden Plaza has agreed to simply pay for half of the cost of the sign with installation, which would be $5,050. Attachments A.
