attendance to discuss the 2013 Legislative Session and other issues of interest to Arden Hills.

SUBJECT: 2013 Legislative Session
Background/Discussion
State Senator for District 42 Bev Scalze and State Representative Barb Yarusso are
scheduled to attend this City Council work session to discuss the 2013 Legislative
Session and issues of interest to Arden Hills.
Both Senator Scalze and Representative Yarusso are new to representing Arden Hills.
Senator Scalze has previously served in the House of Representatives from the 54B
district since first elected in 2004. Representative Yarusso has not previously served at
the state level. Attached is some background material on both Representative Yarusso
and on Senator Scalze.
The state went through a redistricting process after the 2010 U.S. Census. Last year our
Senator was Barb Goodwin and our Representative was Kate Knuth. Attached is a map
showing the new House (42A) and Senate (42) districts.
A significant issue this legislative session will be the budget and the estimated $1.1
billion shortfall. It is also anticipated that there will be a bonding bill proposed this
session. Of local interest is any transportation funding for projects that will improve the
overall system in this area and region. Any funding related to the TCAAP project will be
beneficial to the City,the County, and the northern Metro area in general.

Beverly M. "Bev" Scalze (born October 27, 1943) is
a Minnesota politician and a member of the 4 Bev Scalze
Minnesota House of Representatives representing -
District 54B, which includes portions of Ramsey -
County in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A
Democrat, she is also a business owner and artist.[ll

School in Baudette. She later attended the College of Alma mater College of Visual Arts
Visual Arts in Saint Paul and Century College in Century College
White Bear Lake, receiving her A.D. and A.A. in Art.
She was a technician at 3M from 1962-1966, and was Profession business owner,artist, legislator
owner-artist of Scalze's from 1966-1996. She has
been the owner and operator of Hoffman Corner Heating and Air Conditioning in White Bear Lake since
1996.['][3]

Community service
Scalze has been active in her local community and in state government for many years. She was a
member of the Little Canada City Council from 1979-2002, and was the founder and coordinator of the
local Multi-Housing Safety Coalition from 1996-2002. She was a member of the board of trustees of the
Suburban Area Chamber of Commerce from 1980-1989,president of the Ramsey County League of
Local Governments from 1989-1990, and vice president of the Little Canada Parent-Teacher
Association. She has also served as a member of the Ramsey County Riverfront Facilities Ad Hoc
Advisory Committee, as a member of the Minnesota Attorney General's Task Force on Pharmaceuticals,
Medicare and Family Health and Task Force for Information Technology, and as a delegate to the Rush
Line Corridor Task Force.[1][31
