The County did apply for this funding once before but was not selected because of a more strict criteria. Apparently this year's solicitation is less interchange specific so the County thinks Lexington Avenue is a good project. They are asking for a letter of support from the City for their application. The City provided a similar letter of support for the last unsuccessful application. Attached is the e-mail from Joe Lux asking for the letter of support and the letter I have prepared. Given City Council approval I will forward the letter to Ramsey County. As you are aware, Mn/DOT is under construction on an interstate project on I-694 that will eliminate eastbaund I-694 access at Hamline Avenue thus forcing more traffic to the Lexington Avenue interchange. This issue was a key point in our City's negotiation with Mn/DOT over granting Municipal Consent. As you know, it took almost nine months for our City Council to adopt a Municipal Consent resolution. This was done only after Mn/DOT agreed to include capacity and turn lane improvements on the Lexington Avenue bridge in their project. Your project will continue these very important improvements.
