SUBJECT: County Road 96 / Interstate 35W Interchange Design
City Council Workshop Discussion
Ramsey County is taking the lead on the County Road 96 / Interstate 35W Interchange Design.
The County has assembled a project management team (PMT) and is moving ahead with
preliminary design of the interchange. A part of the preliminary design is to look at traffic
control options and compare the alternatives.
The alternative that seems to be the preferred choice related to intersection control and bridge
layout is referred to as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). Staff has asked that Ramsey

County provide the City Council with information on this style of interchange. On April 22
Ramsey County attended a City Council workshop in New Brighton to share this information
with their Council. In the coming months after the design progresses Ramsey County will return
with a fully developed plan to discuss municipal consent.

Beth Engum with Ramsey County will be in attendance at the workshop to give a short
presentation and answer questions the City Council may have.
