On February 14, 1976 our city will have been incorpor- Wated for twenty-five years. There is a new block of information re- qCNuested on the 1975 Federal Tax Return Forms 1040 and 1040A which has caused • some questions. We have been asked by the Village Hall (oops "City Hall" - ) to clarify this. Sureia.af the Census to prepare 1976 population and 1975 per capita incolhe estimates for general revenue sharing purposes.-.Tbe updated population and per capita income iniosmation will be available for use by the Office of Revenue Sharing in'.1977-78. It is important that every taxpayer report his correct place of resi- dence on this form to insure proper credit for revenue sharing as well as contributing to the accuracy of the Bureau of Census and Internal Revenue Service statistics. Remember: Write "City of Arden Hills" in Block "D". On our 25th Birthday, resident population is 650% greater than at the time of incorporation. A Petition for Incorporation was submitted in December 1950, and at that time the population was 916 people. Estimated 1975 res- ident population is 5,994. We have seen a similar growth in the Arden Hills business community. There are now more than 70 businesses in our "city". In addition, the new Arden Plaza Office Center, 75% occupied, has some twenty offices, including a travel bureau, several insurance agents, a dentist, physician, attor- ney, chiropractor, optometrist and a realtor. During the past few years the County Road E. business strip seems to have become "Downtown Arden Hills". Its appearance has improved tremendously reflecting the foresight and careful consideration given architectural design, building materials, landscaping plans, quantity and camoflouge of parking areas and traffic flow by the Council, Planning Commission and the concerns who have built there. Seven years ago Sitzmark occupied an area of less than 500 sq.ft.; expan- sion has increased its size to more than 18,000 sq.ft. St. Paul Book & Stationery built its headquarters facility here, employing approximately 120 people. Carroll Furniture's current expansion will nearly double its floor -space. New additions to the strip are MacDonald's, the Steak Inn, the motel/hotel addition to McGuire's restaurant and the variety of stores in the Arden Plaza complex. Control Data, Honeywell, Continental Can Co. and 3M Company have facili- ties in Arden Hills. Cardiac Pacemakers is building its headquarters at Hamline and County Road F in a two-story, 57,800 sq.ft. building and have been commended by adjacent residents on the fine job they have done of pre- serving the old trees and the natural land contours. Liv -A -Snap and International Paper also added to their properties during 1975. The total estimated valuation of these additions and remodelings to the commercial and industrial businesses in Arden Hills is over $1,700,000 for 1975. .....The Josephine Hills Garden Club presents awards to any public facility or commercial enterprise in Arden Hills that has made a contin- uing effort to beautify their property. The Garden Club recently selec- ted The Arden Hills Branch of Ramsey County Libraries, 1941 W. County Road E-2 as the recipient of the annual Civic Beautification -Award..... Runners up for the award were Arden Hills Nursery, 4350 N. Hamline and I.C. Systems, 3499 N. Lexington. It is hoped this annual award might be an incentive to others to further beautify their premises..... New residential construction and additions or remodblings to existing res- idential dwellings during the year 1975 have an estimated valuation of over $5,500,000. A reminder to home owners.
