Precinct 1 - Vote at Valentine Hills School (Formerly you voted at the Vil- lage Hall.) Precinct 2 - Vote at Lake Johanna Elementary School. Precinct 3 - Vote at the Village Hall. • Correction in registration procedures as des- cribed in last month's Crier: If you wait to register on September 14 it is then necessary to bring with you on that date proof of iden- tity and residency. However, if you pre - register before September 14 (either by call- ing the Village Hall requesting a registration form or by stopping in per- sonally to obtain it), this proof of residency is not required. Register any weekday at the Village Hall, or during the extra hours the Hall will be open for this purpose: Saturday, August 21, 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and on August 23 and 24 until 9:00 P.M.). If you are doubtful which is your voting precinct, call the Village Hall, 633-5676. The 1970 official census set Arden Hills' population at 5,149; current, un- official count is 6,155 residents. Some reasons why ..... ...... The Villages at Pemtom (the only Town House/Condominium development in Arden Hills) now has approximately 270 units occupied. When development is completed, there will be 306 units, total. (Pemtom expects all these 306 units to be occupied by April -May of 1977.) Some interesting statistics were supplied by Pemtom management - The average age of residents is 35.3 years; 71% of the owners are married (guess that leaves 29% single, doesn't it?). There are .54 children per unit. Twenty-one percent of the children ' are under five years of age; 35% ages 5-11; 19% ages 12-15; 13% ages 16-18 and 15% are 19 and older. ' ...... Re the 21 -lot Karth Lake residential development, Council is still contemplating details prior to giving final approval. However, Indian Oaks II (14 lots) now has two houses under construction. (A -utility assessment ' hearing on this area will be held at the August 23 Council meeting). , hL ••.... Another developer, Skyline Builders, recently .held an, informal discus- sion with the Planning Commission concerning land usage of the now vacant land along County Road F east of the bus barns in Arden Hills. Several ideas are being considered by Skyline for this area which is now zoned R-1: 1) Division into 21 lots of 14,000 sq. ft. each for single family dwellings. This usage is within minimum lot size requirements in Arden Hills and would not require re -zoning. 2) Dividing the area into 26 lots of 11,000 sq. ft. each for single family homes. This plan would require re -zoning to R-2. 3) Dividing the land into 23 lots of 11,000 sq. ft. each with the remaining ' land designated as open space. This plan also requires R-2 re -zoning. 4) A condominium/town house development of six units. This plan falls in- , to the category of a Planned Unit Development("PUD" in Planning language) and PUDs require a Special Use Permit. Skyline apparently has contacted some adjacent residents to sound them out about their feelings regarding the above proposals. When Skyline makes its decision on which way to go, a preliminary plat plan will be presented to the Planning Commission. A Public Hearing will then be held before the Plan- ning Commission to enable all residents to question and respond -- residents within 350' of the development will be notified by mail of that -Hearing. (The rest of us will hope to read about it in the Town Crier ...... And the colleges in Arden Hills grow too....: Planning Commission (at its August 3 meeting) recommended Council approve the Fine Arts facility. at Northwestern College campus, with a long list of 'conditions'. Council will discuss this issue at a forthcoming meeting but the item is not yet scheduled on a specific Council agenda. Check with the Village Hall for an exact date. , ...... Bethel College is anticipating an enrollment of 1700 students this fall. Last year's enrollment was 1630. Council has approved an addition ' to Bethel's Fine Arts Building. The addition is approximately 105' x 38' (four levels). and will house administrative offices, day student lounges and some class rooms. Although Bethel is still housing some students in its dormitory buildings at the old campus site on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul, all classes are now held on the Arden Hills campus. Arden Hills Wild Life (?) Population Up -date: There are now 38 Canadian ■ Geese on Lake Valentine, donated by the A. H. Sportsmen's Club. That's the truth; here's one we're not so sure about: Is it or is it not truly a wild , turkey roaming the yards in Shorewood Hills? Something has been spotted by residents there and some insist it is a wild turkey and others say "Nah;" Hope some expert will come forth with an answer..... , Protecting people: Several metropolitan area communities operate Police Reserve Units who work with municipality police. Arden Hills Council has approved the creation of such a Unit in our Village to assist the Police Department personnel in times of need. Two A. H. men have completed the training course and will be available to assist -police on a volunteer basis after Council has finished its study of the Rules and Regulations pertaining to Police Reserve Units and has given its official approval. Transporting People: Beginning Monday, August 9, MTC will -begin service of Route 38, a freeway express bus service through Arden Hills to downtown Minneapolis. The route begins in Circle Pines and enters Arden Hills at. 35W and County Road E-2 to New Brighton Road to Stowe Avenue, then down. Cleveland Avenue to County Road D where it will again go back on 35W. The bus will make one trip into downtown Minneapolis in the morning, scheduled to arrive at Cleveland and E-2 at 7:17 A.M. (You will have to calculate times around this stop point as at this writing, schedules have not been re- ceived from the printers). There are two return trips in the late afternoon from downtown Minneapolis, at 4:45 P.M. and 5:10 P.M. Because only this sketchy information is available at this time we suggest you call the MTC at 827-7733 for more times and locations. This editor did ask how one stops the bus.to get picked up and the answer came: "At controlled corners there will be designations, otherwise you just kind of wave it down." Well, o.k., good luck, riders, and let the Crier know how this works out! **'***MTC says the trip from Circle Pines to downtown Minneapolis on Route 38 will take only 45 minutes, cutting 17-19 minutes from a previous schedule, which could make it an attractive route for A. H. residents who work in Min- neapolis...... ' Next month the Crier hopes to publish ROUTE MAPS PS AND SCHEDULES FOR ALL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVING ARDEN HILLS in a condensed version for quick -reference. ' Helping People: The Volunteers of America has contacted the - h Crier in its search to locate foster parents who are willing to help in the treatment of "troubled kids". They are looking for foster parents who: "Have the abil- ity to communicate warmth & understanding to children; have child-rearing experience; and are interested in further developing their skills in working ' with children." VOA also adds that it offers: "Training to develop the know- ledge and skills to help a foster child; opportunities for professional de- 'velopment; financial compensation; and extensive support from agency staff."
