uating Seniors. It is also meant as a reassur-
ance to parents and as a hope for Society. For
instance, can anyone but my 7th grader name
the 10 Provinces of Canada?

More information about diseased trees in
R. Arden Hills; this time sort of a "good news-
. . • bad news" thing. The bad news is that if our
• City Tree Inspector finds a rotten tree, it has
to be removed. The good news is that the tree -
owner now has to pay only the first $110 of
tree removal cost each year. This will apply to residential property on135
and to yards of less than 5 acres in size. And it is not retroactive ---which
must be upsetting to my friends on Lake Josephine who had a bill close to
$1000 one yearfbr 8 very large elms. Anyway, be sure and check out your status
with the Tree Inspector when and if he gives you the bad news.
Also, John Buckley of the Parks Dept, says that you can dump tree cuttings,
branches, and logs at the Vadnais Heights Site on Centeville Road, one-half
mile south of Highway 96. It is anticipated that this site will be open after
' June 1, and IT'S FREE. No leaves, garbage, or plastic bags however.

Had several calls about the way Ramsey County Sheriff's Department is
servicing Arden Hills. The first lady said she was most pleased with the
concern evidenced by the Sheriff's Dept, regarding a chemical dependency
problem with one of her sons. Apparently after they got the boy to the hos-
pital, the Sergeant called her back the next day to see if everything was O.K.
and to ask if there was anything else the Police could do.
The next lady that called me had had a snowmobile -through -her -yard prob-
lem last winter, and the Sheriff's Dept, again showed real concern and spent
a lot of time explaining the legal limitations and her alternatives. She too
appreciated the interest displayed by the Police.
The next caller wasn't as positive. She is a senior citizen who lives
near the Fairview -County Road D -New Brighton Blvd, intersection and feels
that the traffic patrol on that corner has all but disappeared since Ramsey
County took over our law enforcement. She said Arden Hills always used to
have a squad car there and now she seldom sees one. On two occasions she has
seen cars glide through the stop sign, and the kids from the nearby schools
have become very careless about staying out of the road. (Editor's notes
From personal experience, I can testify that the AH Police did watch that
corner very carefully. It wasn't a ticket tho, just a warning.)
This same lady tossed in an extra plea for people to please not allow

their dogs to run loose between lls00 pose and 5s00 a.m. just because it's. w I
dark out. Dogs seem to do their doggy things in other people's yards regard-
less of the time. t

Speaking of dogs, do you know just what it costs if your dog is picked '
up by the dog catcher? The 'impounding fee' is $10. And if the animal had
the misfortune to bite someone, it must be quarantined in the kennel for 10
days to make azure there will be no rabies problem. So add on a $30 kennel ,
cost. Watch your dog!
Several people have asked about Arden Hills' current status regarding
ambulance service. When the Sheriff's Dept* took over our police service, ' I
we had no vans or station wagons to turn over to them as ambulances. So, as
of now, we continue to get our ambulance service from Unity Hospital in
Fridley. If you think you need an ambulance, you can call Unity directly$ or
get hold of the Sheriff, and he will call fair you.
I called Unity and discovered that the base rate for an ambulance is X63
if you need a stretcher, and $26 if you can sit up. Add to this $2 per mile
from your point of pick-up to whereveryou want to go. (For a cardiac arrest ,
they do recommend the nearest hospital!) It's $5 more if you want the siren
and flashing lights. Since the average distance to a hospital from Arden
Hills is roughly 10 miles, you're probably going to run up a bill of around '
$100 per ride. The man at Unity said that a cardiac patient generally nests
closer to $140 because of the drugs and/or oxygen administered and the monitor-
ing devices used.
One lady who phoned me said she had called a Medical Cab from Minneapolif�
once to take her to Midway Hospital", and the bill was $98. Apparently that's
the going rate.
Our Council is currently considering ways and means of having good am-
bulance service that we can afford. Right now, Unity seems best.

from all of Arden Hills to two groups who have recently donated �
Parks Dept, The Josephine Hills Garden Club has given money for
Ingerson Park, and the Arden Hills Community Service Club donate
from their Bridge Night for playground equipment at Floral Park.
The May Human Rights meeting on Credit Discrimination came up with this
infos if you are ever denied credit, first find out why. Remember that you
might try to renegotiate credit terms --such as the length of your loan or the
mise of your downpayment--if it is your age that seems to be putting you at
a disadvantage. If you are a woman and apply for your own credit relying upo
your own income, information about your spouse or ex-spouse can be required
only under certain circumstances. There are Federal Agencies available to
help you determine your rights. Call se if you need some names.
The Human Rights Commission is now considering informational meetings on '
Child Abuse and possibly Gay Rights. If anybody has any thoughts on this,
give me a call ( 84-0773).
The Chairman of the Human Rights Commission also has annonced that ther
are now two vacancies on the Commission. Applications for the' use positions
are invited. Please call the Village Hall (633-5676) if you are interested.

Arden Hills' newest building development (another one???) is called
Wynridge and is located qn 30 acres between Hamline and Fernwood, south of
Amble Road. The preliminary plat is for 55 single-family dwellings. Both
the Planning Commission and Council are concerned about the traffic flow,
particularly the exits onto Hamline and onto Lexington. It was suggested
that the City might eventually have to consider up -grading Hamline to serve
adequately the traffic it will someday carry. The Wynridge development is
the last open land between Hamlin* and Lexington north of F and south of 96.
Right now, Arden Hills has 13 areas in various stages of development.
Here is a quick list of them, with the number of single-family resident lots

For the first four months of this year, Arden Hills has issued building
permits for residential homes and/or improvements to the tune of $393609290.

There will be a Public Hearing on the water improvement into the North-
west portion of the Village on June 19th at 7830 p.m, at the Village Hall.
We've already had so much discussion and dissention on the proposed route of
this water line that the Council changed the original plans. Now the people
on the west side of Round Lake are wondering where their proposed water has
gone. Anyway, if you're interested, please come. The residents directly
affected will be notified by mail of this Hearing.
Had another interesting phone call this months a young gentleman called
to ask just why Arden Hills does not have cable TV? Since I had never really
considered the question, I had no answer. He wanted to know if we had some
sort of law against it. We finally decided that probably not enough people
are interested. If you've any thoughts on this, call me.
POTPOURRIS It's budget planning time again for next year. If you have any
requests, give Charlotte a call at the Village Hall, .... *Looks like three
office buildings will go up on County Road F between Lexington and Hamline.
It's called Lexington Woods Office Park......There's a fine -free book return
period at all Ramsey County Libraries from June 1 through the 17th......The
request for the rezoning at the SW corner of 96 and Hamlin* to provide for a
Tom Thumb store has been turned down. Office buildings or multiple -family
dwellings are now under consideration......The proposal to build 6 homes on
the block bounded by Hamline, Tiller, Dunlap, and Ingerson has been rejected
until someone can figure out what to do with the water there.......
A raise is being considered for our Mayor and Councilmen. Currently the
Mayor receives $175/month and the Councilmen $125/mo. There are no expense
accounts......The street light at the Hamlin -Snelling intersection is set to
go in. And our Clerk -Administrator has been authorized to write to Governor
Perpich to ask that the lights on the County Road E -Highway 51 ramps be turned
on. Apparently they were darkened at the height of the energy crisis......
Northwestern National Hank is giving the City $160000 in lieu of park land....

The streets in the Village are seal -coated on a rotating basis every 4 years;
the 1974 sections are being repeated this year......Bussard's Round Lake
development had a proposed street in it to be named "Bussard Court". Objec-
tions were raised when it was discovered AH already has a "Bussard Court"
over by Lake Johanna...... The widening of Lexington north of E has begun and
isn't it a mess?. .... .The 10 Canadian Provinces are: Prince Edward Island,
New Brunswick, Neva Scotia, Newfoundlandq Quebec, Manitoba, Ontariag Alberta,
Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.

For the safety y
and. enjoyment ment of our bikers and hikers, the Arden
Hills Parks and Recreation Department has designated several special
trails which the Village hopes ,you will use. Members of the Arden
Hills League of Women Voters have a special interest in this project
and have assisted in the development of the trails and continue to
work on their development and maintenance with Mr. Buckley of Parks
and Recreation.
BIKE nNLY - (solid line on Lake Johanna Blvd., north on _ild Snelling,
then west on County Road E-2) The streets have been striped and
stenciled with the "bicycle" symbol. Bicyclists are urged to use
pants of this route whenever possible.
HIKE AND OFF-ROAD BIKE - (broken lines from Dellwood to Harriet,
around the Chatham development south of E-2, along the power line
route from Cleveland and Glenpaul to County Road E, around the
' marsh between the library and County Road F, and the, route from
Floral Park north to Arden View Drive) These are basically
walking trails that are often suited. for biking off the road
