Council Should Consider
Providing direction regarding the new website greyscale design and color palettes as proposed by
CivicPlus.
Background
The City has an opportunity to extend its brand to be more reflective of the City as a whole and
to include its vision for future development. As the “face” of the City, the website is an
important leading communications vehicle. Decisions regarding look and feel could be extended
to other City communications applications. For example, the Council could decide to add colors
to the City color palette, without changing the City logo, and those colors could be standardized
and incorporated in the website, newsletter, brochures, etc.
The current logo and color will not change, but the Council could choose to add colors to the
City’s color palette that are complementary. Civic Plus provided three palette options. Additional
palette ideas were sent to the design team at Civic Plus and included in the presentation.

Color Presentation-Palettes 1 & 2
The Arden Hills logo will NOT change. The vendor recommends adding colors to the site.
With these palettes, additional gradations of the Arden Hills green and tan are added.

2
Websites with Color
Very similar to our City; tan can look dated. A two-color palette is used.
Websites with Color
Same site; but white makes the site pop
Websites with Color
Two different greens (see logo differentiation) can work with gray/white background and
look more vibrant.
Websites with Color
Interior page; whereas, City of Arden Hills is tan, Rice Creek Commons is gray, giving it a
more modern look
Websites with Color
Adding just one or two additional colors complements Hopkins logo and allows for better
content differentiation on interior pages. A three color-palette is used.
Color Presentation-Palette 3
The Arden Hills logo will NOT change. Adding additional colors outside current colors
gives a fresh look. This is considered a fall color palette, but could reflect spring and
summer seasons, too, because the colors are brighter.
3
Color Presentation on Palettes
With the logo remaining the same, there is an opportunity to extend the City brand by
adding secondary and tertiary colors like earth tone fall or an earth tone palette with lake
colors.
Color Presentation on Palettes
As we re-envision the Army landscape (TCAAP), which is reflected in our current brand
colors of green and tan, there is an opportunity to also re-envision our Cityscape by
adding to the palette. Ideas were sent to the design team.
Color Presentation on Palettes
There are other extended options to bring in earth tones that also reflect City growth and
amenities—business, parks, retail, lakes, beaches, etc.
Color Presentation on Palettes
Matte earth tones on the left (autumn), with multi-season tones on the right. All of these
ideas were provided to the design team. They will recommend a color scheme based on
Council feedback and their design expertise in color combination and website ADA
guidelines.
Websites with Color
The City of Troy, Michigan uses four colors throughout its site.
Websites with Color
The McKinney, Texas brand is also “nature-oriented.” Their colors are broad and could reflect
multiple seasons and City amenities. A six-color palette is used.
