ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER
City Planner Matthew Bachler called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m.

Present: Chair Dan Erickson, Commissioners Brendan O’Meara, David Radziej and Sheila
Bennett Kilander
Also Present: City Planner Matthew Bachler and Deputy Clerk Jolene Trauba
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
It was the consensus of the Commission to accept the agenda as presented.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was the consensus of the Commission to accept the June 6, 2018 meeting minutes as presented.
4. UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS
A. Business Retention and Expansion Program
City Planner Bachler stated that this item was on the agenda to allow for updates on business visits.
The Commissioners noted no updates.
B. New Business Update
City Planner Bachler mentioned that three businesses have opened in Arden Hills: Able Energy,
Dunn Brothers and Old National Bank. He noted that Old National Bank was actually a name
change for the former Anchor Bank.
City Planner Bachler said the new mugs and handouts were ready to bring to new businesses.
Chair Dan Erickson said he would visit the new businesses.

C. Manufacturing Advisory Committee
City Planner Bachler said the City of Mounds View has organized a Manufacturing Advisory
Committee with a goal of working with local companies to identify skilled workforce issues and to
create programs and make recommendations on legislative changes that will help companies fill
vacancies. Current partners include the Mounds View School District, City of Mounds View,
Vadnais Heights Economic Development Corporation, and Finishing Trade Institute – Upper
Midwest.
The Committee is looking to expand and include two or three businesses from Arden Hills and
Shoreview. Staff has sent information about the Committee to four local businesses that may be
interested in joining the Committee.
Commissioner David Radziej said he would try to attend the first meeting and report back to the
Committee.

C. Staff Comments
City Planner Bachler said the State of the City events are scheduled for Thursday, September 27
and Tuesday, October 2. Communications Coordinator Dawn Skelly is taking the lead on the event.
Postcards will be made for the EDC to distribute. Staff is thinking about collecting written questions
and have staff sort through them to have general questions answered at the meeting and have specific
questions answered later by the appropriate staff member.
City Planner Bachler noted that his last day at the City of Andover would be August 9. Bolton &
Menk will provide interim services and the City Planner position has been posted. The City
Administrator has suggested that the EDC take a temporary break in meetings until a new Planner
is in place, with meetings resuming in November or December.
