Page 1 of 1 AGENDA ITEM – 1A MEMORANDUM DATE: February 19, 2019 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Dave Perrault, City Administrator SUBJECT: Lake Johanna Fire Department Update Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: n/a n/a n/a Council Should Consider The Council will be receiving a 2018 year-end update from the Lake Johanna Fire Department. Background Chief Tim Boehlke, of Lake Johanna Fire Department, will be present to review the 2018 Annual Report with the Council; the Chief will also give a brief update on the needs analysis recently put forward by the department. Next steps for the needs analysis still needs to be discussed by the Board of Directors at their next meeting, substantive discussion on the study is not expected for tonight. A few highlights of the annual report: -Arden Hills total calls: 1,039 in 2018 (986 in 2017) -Arden Hills average response time: five minutes and fifty-five seconds in 2018 (six minutes and two seconds in 2017) -Arden Hills estimated fire loss: $555,000 ($736,200 in 2017) Attachments Attachment A: 2018 Annual Report LAKE JOHANNA FIRE DEPARTMENT 2018 ANNUAL FIRE REPORT REPORT PREPARED BY: DEBI KRAUSE OFFICE MANAGER & TIM BOEHLKE FIRE CHIEF LJFD 2018 Annual Report Page 2 of 11 Lake Johanna Fire Department 2018 Annual Fire Report _____________________________________________________________________________________________ In 2018 the Lake Johanna Fire Department responded to 3,589 calls for service which is an increase of 242 calls from the previous year. We assisted neighboring Fire Departments a total of 46 times. Automatic Aid/Mutual Aid sent us to the following Cities: Automatic Aid - Given Mutual Aid - Given Roseville- 23 calls White Bear Lake- 7 calls White Bear Twp- 5 calls Vadnais Heights- 4 calls New Brighton- 4 calls Lexington- 1 call Lino Lakes- 1 call St. Anthony- 1 call CALLS BY CITY City of Shoreview calls for service increased by 90 calls which works out to be 54.3% of total calls for 2018. The City of Arden Hills accounted for 28.9% of the calls, up by 53 calls over last year. The City of Arden Hills had $555,000 in fire dollar loss for the year. The City of North Oaks recorded $82,000 in fire dollar loss. ANNUAL DOLLAR LOSS COMPARISON Over the last 5 years the cities combined average dollar loss from Fire was $1,715,815. In 2018, Building fires attributed for the majority of dollar loss totaling about $1,662,300. Stations were called back to assist the Shift Crews 48 times throughout the year which is roughly 1.3% of the calls. Outside, Special Properties include calls to fires, accidents and EMS calls on roadways as well as open spaces, and parks that accounted for 275 of the calls for the year.
