Home My WebLink About02 MARCH NL 2022 (PDF)The Official City Newsletter for Arden Hills Residents March 2022 Public Safety Annual Reports for 2021 Lake Johanna Fire Department Annual Report The Lake Johanna Fire Department (LJFD) has issued their annual report for 2021. The LJFD serves three cities: Arden Hills, Shoreview, and North Oaks. The report outlines the department's activities and provides reporting metrics for the past year. In 2021, the LJFD responded to 1178 calls for service in Arden Hills, which was 134 calls more than the previous year. They assisted neighboring Fire Departments 32 times and received aid 14 times. In Arden Hills, LJFD had an average call response time of 5 minutes and 51 seconds compared to last year’s 6:00 minutes. Calls for service were spread evenly throughout the day, with noon-5pm leading as the busiest time for calls. Of the many reasons for calling the LJFD, emergency medical services were the most common, making up nearly 75% of calls. Less than 2% of incidents required actual fire responses. Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Annual Report The City of Arden Hills contracts with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office (RCS) for police protection services. In addition to Arden Hills, six other cities also contract public safety services from RCS, including Falcon Heights, Little Canada, North Oaks, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights, and White Bear Township. In 2021, there were 1,063 calls for service, compared to the 1,034 calls in 2020. Calls for Service are incidents responded to by deputies. Calls are often initiated by citizens via 9-1-1 or deputy initiation while on patrol. Most calls for sheriff patrols fall within the Dangerous Condition category, referring to conditions within a roadway that create hazards. This includes a number of conditions, from reckless driving to wildlife in a roadway and more. Assist Medical and Fire Agency is the second most common call with Traffic Stops following as the third. Arden Hills has joined the Twin Cities Gateway’s nine other member cities: Anoka, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Fridley, Ham Lake, Lino Lakes, Mounds View, New Brighton, and Shoreview. The mission of Twin Cities Gateway is to promote the area to generate increased tourism-related economic impact for its member cities. The nonprofit organization is funded by the local option lodging tax collected by 25 lodging properties throughout its ten member cities. In adding the City of Arden Hills as a member city, the visitors bureau will be collecting lodging tax revenue from the city’s two hotels, Springhill Suites Arden Hills, and Quality Inn & Suites Arden Hills. Chick-fil-A Grand Opening On the morning of February 10th, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the grand opening of Arden Hills' new Chick-fil-A restaurant. City councilmembers and staff, friends and family of the owner, representatives from the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce, and others joined the celebration. The new franchise is located at 3855 Lexington Ave N at the location of the former Perkins. Benchmarks City News Continued February 14, 2022 City Council Meeting All items were approved unanimously by a 5–0 vote. • Appointed Marie Hinton as Chair of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee (PTRC) with the term as Chair expiring December 31, 2022. • Appointed Amy LaMere to the position of Customer Service Representative, a job-share position, filling an opening due to retirement. • Approved Ordinance 2022-001 eliminating two resident committees: The Communications Committee has been functioning for several years with assigned Councilmembers and Staff. The Financial Planning and Analyses Committee’s focus has been project-based, and instead of continuing to exist as a formal committee, it has been changed to a working group and called when needed. • Passed a Resolution to identify the City as the lead agency for the Mounds View High School Trail Improvements project as required for a federal Safe Routes to School grant application. This trail is planned to run north on Old Snelling from County Road E to Lake Valentine Road and then west on Lake Valentine Road (a trail already exists by the park) to Mounds View High School. Council Seeking Input about Food Trucks Ordinance The City Council is considering revising the Food Truck Ordinance. An Open House will be held to facilitate resident feedback about the potential changes, with details forthcoming. Currently, among the requirements provided in the ordinance are the following: • Residential properties may host food trucks for private, catered events (not events open for sales to the general public) • Food trucks cannot be parked on the street; they must be parked on private property • All food trucks must have a license with the City of Arden Hills Keep an eye out for more information about the open house on the City website. Now Hiring for Seasonal Positions Council Seeks Input about Food Trucks Ordinance Delkor Systems, located off of Highway 96 at 4300 Round Lake Rd W, is a local manufacturer that specializes in the design and manufacturing of advanced robotic packaging machines. The current Ordinance sets the speed limit at 30mph. The proposal reduces the speed limit to 25mph on city roads. Any changes to this Ordinance would not apply to county or state roads, such as Lake Johanna Blvd or New Brighton Road.
