HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-08-1984 PTRC Agenda - Minutes Minutes of Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting Village of Arden Hills Tuesday , May 8, 1984 - 6 : 30 p .m. • Village Hall Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman Sand at 6 : 30 p .m. Roil Call Present - Chairman David Sand, Adele Anderson, Keith Enrooth , Don Messerly , James Otto. Absent - Gerald Dreyling, Mary Gillies , Dick Klick, Dodie Kostishack, Tom Sather, Tim Tuggle , Mel Wild Also Present - Parks Director John Buckley . Business This was the Committee 's annual tour of Arden Hills Parks . Tour and Comments Floral - The play equipment here has been holding up very well . Placement of a single tennis court is good for receiving some wind protection . The Committee could consider the possibility of a floating dock in the marsh area for access during the summer months . Cummings - The Installation of play equipment will be located on the northwest and and double tennis courts , playing north and south , on the hill just east of the cul -de-sac . • The grass is growing very well . A trail connecting Cummings Park to Hamline Avenue and Floral Park is recognizable and definitely being used by the neigh- borhood . Freeway - This park is small and looks crowded with its permanent hockey rink . The area needs more plantings . Some consideration for the future could be planting vines along the fencing and around the hockey rink to Improve its appearance in the summer . Valentine - This park is also very small and looking very wet and messy during spring rains . Members feel this park should receive special emphasis re the water problem . Crepeau - This park is being considered for emphasis in wild flower/natural type settings . Some discussion of slow- ing the water flow out of the marsh area to create the possibility for the propagation of cattail and water lily . Also expose the extraordinarily mature oaks with emphasis on their shape and size . Consider extending the dirt coverage of the culvert on the east side near Benton Way to create space for picnic benches and playground equipment . The Committee displayed a definite desire to keep this park more natural and undeveloped . We met a mid-elementary aged child riding his bike on • the trail , which is not hard surfaced, so it can be done . -i - Minutes of Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting May 8, 1984 Page two • Ingerson - This park has had the most problems with vandalism during the past summer . Some possible ways of re- ducing the incidents of vandalism were considered , such as lights and an Improved roadway for police car to drive through on the lake side . Sampson - This park is small but has interesting mature plantings . The neighborhood children are getting too old for the playground equipment which was designed for tot lot activlti'es . Hazelnut - This park has the Arden Hills trail running along the west border, connecting it to Sampson Park and the Lake Johanna Beach . It will receive a hard court for ball practice and a single tennis court . The ball field , hockey/skating, sliding possibilities , recently installed playground equipment make this park 's usage very broad . Charles Perry - Parking during softball team activities continues to be a problem . The playground equipment was Instal - led a year ago and included one of the best slides in Arden Hills .
