Approval of Minutes Chairman Sand raviewed the Minutes of the November 8, 1933 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee . Otto moved, seconded by Sather, that the November 8th Minutes be approved , Motion carried unan ; mousiy . Council Rocort Councilmen M0cahy roported that the Counci i has approved the • committee appointments for the year 1934 . Mulcahy welcomed the Parks Committee members and expressed his hopes for another active, effective and enjoyable year together reviewing and possibly 1mplemanting the Tooker report. Mulcahy reported that Council will most I t ke ly make the appoint- ment to fail the Council vacancy at Its January 30th meeting; reported that Diane McAlnistar has moved to Cincinnati , Ohio . Mulcahy reported that the Arden Hills Ea1I Festival presented the Arden HI I is Pares Department a chock for S3 ,OJO, and re- quested to be Informed of the use the Parks Dept, makes of the ga' ft . Mulcahy reported that the Clty has received a response ;rom the office of Senator Rudy Boschwitz, regarding the use of the Arsenal pb oparty for ba l 1 f ie ids . Mulcahy reported that the Woodbridge park dedication Is $33,000 , payable over a 10-ysar parlod . Sand raported that the arsenal community ballfield proposal is on hold, at present . Miscellaneous Business/Haw Business Tom Sather requested that tho Parks Department consider the spraying of poison Ivy along the trail , in Chatham. Dick Ktick suggested pubilshing the parks and 'trails map again in the spring, and prabably inc! ude the trai Bs on the Bothe5 campus . Dodie Kosfitshack asked the phone numbers for the warming houses be publishad in the Toton Crier. Chair Sand suggested that a noto be 3nci.1luded relative to the phone's Hnitad use for emorgen- cles , and for perents ' calls to the w4rming houses . MINNESOTA 55112 633-56W January 12 , 1984 Mr. Mike Heffran Secretary - General Manager North Suburban Community Foundation State Fairgrounds St. Paul , MN 55108 Dear Mr. Heffran: At the January meeting of the Arden Hills' Park and Recreation Committee , Chairman David Sand informed the group of the North Suburban Community Foundation 's interest in discovering potential recreational needs in the suburban area. During the discussion , the following programs were mentioned: Swim and Gym Activities for *Handicapped Participants A group -home for handicapped individuals—is-- located in Arde.A Hills . These individuals cannot be main-streamed into regular programs because of their depand for one-on-one supervision. Financial support for a program for the handicapped is greatly needed. Senior Citizens Program While seniors ' activities are sponsored by the 621 School District and neighboring communities , Arden Hills ' seniors do not have a program they can call their own . The organization of a seniors club would provide an enrichment program for Arden Hills ' seniors. Seed money is needed for this activity. Latch Rey Program There is a need for child care for school-aged children while their parents are away at work or school. An extended day program would provide a supportive , safe environment for these children. Program fees will cover some of the expenses - additional support will be necessary. As a trustee of the North Suburban community Foundation, I am currently soliciting information on commmity recreational needs. It is our hope that in the near future NSCF will be able to provide a degree of financial assistance in this area. The obvious first step in this process is to assemble a catalogue of exigency. For this reason, I would appreciate very much your written input with respect to score of the more immediate needs of the Arden Hills recreational program. our trustees will meet towards the end of January to evaluate various proposals. Could I hear from you before January 15?
