Minutes of Regular Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting
Village of Arden Hills
August 10, 1982
Village Hall
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7 :35 p .m. by Chair Anderson.
Roll Call
Present: A. Anderson, C. Grudnoske, D. Halve, P. Lippert,
D. Sand, T. Sather
Absent : M. Bergene , J. Dreyling; D. Kostishack, J. McTavish,
M. Olr1on, M. Wild
Also Present : Councilman T . Mulcahy , Parks Director J. T. Buckley
Approval of Minutes°
Motion was made by Y . Lippert, seconded by D. Sand, that the
minutes of July 20 be approved as mailed. Motion carried
unanimously .
Council Report
Councilman Mulcahy reviewed Council actions during the past month
with the Committee.
- Lindey 's Triangle . Mulcahy stated that it appears that the
County is strongly considering returning this land to the
original owner; Council is again drafting a letter to the County,
stating Village 's preference for the land to remain County
property . Mulca`iy suggested Committee consider vbether they felt
it would want the land purchased for Park 's continued use should
it be returned to original owner.
- Trails . Council approved Parks Department purchasing pro-cast
concrete rounds (3 to 5) to mark entrance of trail behind Strauss
and Larsen property , black dirt, and providing soe and labor
to grass in path. . Mulcahy felt it important that the "Parks
Committee come up with a policy for the trails and pathways in
pretty much detail and a policy on whether people can plant on
trails if the trail abuts their property" .
a Council approved lighting piano for Hazelnut Park ; work is proceed-
✓'� ing. Council approved purchaso cf Toro Grcundemacter, while
expressing considerable: concern &.bout rising maintenance costs
of Village parks .
Mulcahy noted that Congressman Ve+nto had released a news item
re Arsenal land, urging that it be returned to villages when
Federal Government has no further use for it. Motion vus made
by C. Grudnoske , seconded by P. Lippert , that Committee recommend
to Council that a communication be sent to Vento supporting his
position sud stating Village 's iuterest in Arsenal land for
park use ; inclueing information that because of District 621
School closings , Village is in dire need of additional park space.
Motion carried unanimously .

T . Sather stated thet ne has noted many youngsters riding their
bicycles along this araa to reach Perry Park ; Nei€ Brighton Road
hac no shoulders along here , and it seems very dangerous .
Committa6 queried. if Council could briny; this to attention of
Public Si.fety Com-aittee3 and if Council could request County to
enhance Eafety of the rc�ad.
