Holiday Season City Hall Closures 4 Year Council Seat Emily Rousseau 2 Year Council Seat Thomas Fabel 4 Year Council Seat Tena Monson Mayor David Grant In the November 8 General Election, Arden Hills’ residents re-elected David Grant as Mayor and elected three new faces to the City Council: Emily Rousseau, Tena Monson, and Thomas Fabel. Grant received 2,168 votes, while his opponent, Gregg Larson, received 2,015. Rousseau received 2,241 votes and Monson received 1,924 votes, challenging Councilmember incumbents Fran Holmes and Steve Scott, who received 1,548 votes and 1,558 votes. Fabel received 2,238 votes, challenging incumbent David Radziej, who had 1,456 votes. Grant, Rousseau, and Monson will serve four-year terms beginning January 2023; Fabel will serve a special two-year term. Arden Hills Notes is the official newsletter of the City of Arden Hills, an equal-opportunity employer. 2 • Arden Hills Notes • November '22 Truth in Taxation Hearing Scheduled for December 12 The city will hold a Truth-in-Taxation Hearing on Monday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The 2023 General Fund expenditure budget is proposed at $5,527,770. The preliminary tax levy increase is set at 7.0%, which equates to a tax levy of $4,785,770. The proposed levy increase goes to support the following: •General inflation •Increases in Public Safety contracts •Increase in health insurance Based on the preliminary values, the city’s share of property taxes would increase by $72 annually on a median valued home, which is projected to value $443,600 in 2023. Recycle Old Holiday Lights Do you have strings of holiday lights that no longer work? Perhaps you’re switching to energy efficient LED lights this year. Recycle holiday lights by dropping them off at our collection bin located by the main entrance at Arden Hills City Hall, 1245 Highway 96 W in Arden Hills from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Holiday lights will be accepted from December 5 to January 27. Lights will not be accepted when City Hall is closed for holidays. City Snow Plow Policy The city’s Public Works Department strives to provide safe driving conditions for residents through Minnesota's changing seasons. In colder months, street plowing typically begins when 2 inches of snow has been accumulated. Plows will get as close to mailboxes as possible, but residents must clean in front of and around the mailboxes and fire hydrant for access. Ensure trash and recycle cans are placed behind the curb, as this allows operators plow the entire roadway. Do not park vehicles on the street after the accumulation of two or more inches of snow until after plowing has been completed. And as a reminder, parking is not allowed on any city street between 2 am and 6 am year-round. COVID-19 Guidelines Recreation activities and classes are subject to change due to guidelines set forth by the Minnesota Department of Health. Minnesota Fencing Camp Fencing is a competitive sport of finesse, skill, strategy, and endurance. Fencers age 6+ focus on basic techniques. All equipment is provided. Participants must wear long pants to class & bring a water bottle.
