SUBJECT: Visualizing Density Presentation
City and County staff have prepared a presentation to help visualize housing density in a suburban
setting. Housing density is often measured as units per acre, and this presentation aims to demystify
those numbers by showing images and examples of communities nearby and their densities. This is
intended to be a resource for informational purposes.

Visualizing Housing Density at Rice Creek Commons
•At the June 2023 JDA meeting the commissioners discussed finding a way to demonstrate what different densities numbers look like in real life.
•Staff put together the slides to illustrate different densities using examples from neighborhoods in Arden Hills and other nearby communities.
•Note that these examples do not reflect the design standards or architecture expected at Rice Creek Commons –they are intended to show land use and scale of development.
•This presentation is modeled after the Met Council’s presentation on Land Use Illustrations. Full presentation and additional background information can be found here:
