ml\lUTES: By motion of :McC1Ullg seconded by Cummings the mizmtes of the
June 2nd adjourned meeting wsre approvell as read by the clerk.
PE'fITIOIi1S, RE:MO!IlSTBAJrlCES, E'lC.: Vernon Smith, VerJ1ll K. Phiffer, Norman
Richardson, John Brigltede, and W~J1lI F. Sievers, all of Edge_ter Avenue,
east of Lake Josephine, appeared and spOke abOl1t work needed on that street.
Smi th said that last spring the neighbors got together and hauled some
cinders on the street thich made it passable. They were told that the street
will be bladed and given a dnst coat.
!l!1ey also mentioned that "Edgewater Aveme" is also referred to as
"street" and "road" but were told that "avenue" is correct. The offidal map
lists it as ":road" and a resolution may have to be adopted and published to
estab lish the name as "Edge_ter Avenue" to agree with the name of the portion
Of that street in Arden Hills No. 3 Addi tion.
STANDING COlllMITTEE REPORTS:
Publio Safe1;y: Ch. Mack reported that his colllllli ttee has decided to recom-
mend Mr. Jerome T. Wasielewsld, 1605 Lake Johamla BOI1levard, PRior 1586, for
a,ppointment as constable to serve the unexpired term of Te1'ne K. Phiff'er, re-

he was appointed constable for said term, and sworn in immediate~ly by the clerk.
'!he oouncil also approved the usual constable's $500.00 bond fo h1m~ by motion
of Jl&ck leconded by lloepner. .
"ok: also reported that the sheriff's office preferred a different color
for our constables' uniforms, and therefore the Public Safety Committee decided
upon gr8J shirts with blue trousers.
"ck reported that ez-Constable Winkel's siren was smashed accidentally
and is a total loss.

Otto C. Graffunder was designated to obtain data on new unde1l-the..hood
sirens, type, co st. and credi t for ez-ConstableJtl1ffer's to be retlU'ned, and
to report at the June 30th COUIlCil meeting.
Jfack also reported that the Public Safety Committee would have no objection
to the oonstables carrying their own firearms.

lly motion of lfack seconded by Doepner the oouncil approved a recommendA-
tion of the Public Safety Committee .that each Justice of the peace make a
IIIOnthly report to the Chaiman of the said Committee of all arrests under
Tillage ordiIllullles, their dieposi tion, fines alsessed and paid, with tags.
to be filed in the clerk's ottice.

Constable Salitros asked tbr emergency flares. ~e purchase of OX18 set
of three for each constable was authorized by the council by motion of lloepner
seoonded by Jraok.

credit of up to $15.00 per month for eachconstable at Don's Corner, el4ch con.-
stable to ake a monthly report to the Public Safety Committee chairman of
actual miles travelled on vi llage business. In this connection Jlfaok reported
that the Attorney General bas written three opinions that a village bas Sltthor-
ity to furnish the foregoing. among others. to the constables.
'!'he matter of removable identification for constables' cars was discussed
but no final action taken thereon.
'!'he clerk read releases a.nd clearalllles of eJ;-constables' bonds required by
the Fide 11 ty in the case of Winkel and Phiffer. and by motion of JiIaok seconded.
by CuDmiIlg8 he was lIltLthorized to sign the sllllle on behalf of the village.
lfaok made a motion, which was not seconded, that the olerk'S saliry be in.-
creased to $50.00 per month, and in that connection each councilmen is to be
furnished with a copy of the miates of council meetings before the mxt meet-
ing; after a brief diswssion the mayor said the matter would be taken up at the

SPECIAL OBDElh '!'he matter of road estimate for 1952, of lIhich .. full copy
was :l'urn1shed each councilman by the clerk. and tbr the comideration of which
this special DIIeting was calle:d, wal taken up. In the discussion, 1fr. Robert
Ashbach. a member of the Public Works Committee. mentioned that the village
should emploT .ome competent person from the village to su.pervise work done
by the county forces and equipment on village streets. 111 ich would result in a
substantial saving. He wal agreeable to acting in that capacity. !!he clWlllil
favored the IIUggestion. '!'he clerk handed Ashbach a COPT of the county's road
estimate for submi ttiDg hil bid thereon at th t council DIIetiJJg.
