Meeting called. to order promptly by Mayor Owrmdngs.
ROLL CALL: Gwnmings, Doepner, McClung, DeLange present, Mack absent be-
cause of illness.

MIEUTES: Milll1tes of the special meeting held JUIl8 23rd were read by the
clerk: and by motion of DeLange seconded by McClung approved.
LICENSES: Gllstave E. Franson, 422.5 40th Ave. S., Minneapolis, appeared
and stated that he is leasing the "Arden Hills Club Cafe" for one )'ear with
option for a 3-year renewal, beginning July 1, 19.52. '!he council by motion
of Doepner seconded by Delange voted to issue licenses to him as follows, and
to cancel those previously issued to Stephen C. She rack expiring Dec. 31, 19.52:

PETITIONS, ltEIDNS'!'1lANCES, E'ro.: Mr. Charlie Amble upon oral requeat to
the council 1I8.a by motion of DeLange seconded by McClung granted permission to
have a supervised fireworks disply for neighborhood children the evening of
July 4th, 19.52, both constables to be notified thereof, and Graf:f'under said he
woul<l do so.

!BAFFIC CONTROL: Dick Rosacker asked the council to reconsider the question
of Obtaining the State Highway Department's approval of a reduced speed limit on
the north-travelled lane of High_" .51 fr em Highway 10 to the south village
limits. He was again informed of the Highwa;y Depsrtment.s action declining to
post 30 MPH signs because of llll1'veys previously made showing this to be inadvisable,
and that it would be fruitless to approach it again on this snbject. However, it
waa mggested that he could sponsor a petition asking for the desired relief.
He stated that the heavy stream of fast-moving north-iound traffic makes it djjf'i-
cult and hazardous for him to enter the southbound lane.

cil meeting. By motion of DeLange seconded by l&lClung the oouncil anthoriud him
to order the following:

plus $1.00 postage on each, less whatever credi t Chas. Olson'" Son
realize on the retD.rn of the siren used by ~Constable Phiffer.

whi te star on black, and under it the name of the vi l1age, wi th apace
for the word .polioe" to be added later, if desired - at $14.90 per Pl'.

seoonded by Doepner authorized the olerk to give 10 days' publi shed. notioe in
the offiOial,paper, for hearing thereon on JUly 14, 19.52, at B o'clock P.M., in
the town hall, and also to post the same lnthree plaoes.
JUSTICE CO~: Upon request of Justice of the Peaoe Graffunder the council
by motion, of Cummings secQllded by lleLange granted him permission to use the town
hall for Justice court on !\1esday and Fridq evenings, except the town meeting
night.
CIVIL DIilFENSE: Chief oJr .Au.xiliary POlio, Graff'under handed the mayor a
letter from Col. Miller, whiohhe read, praisiJl& the work of the Arden Hills
aU%iliary police in polioing a recent disaster at Cirole Pines. !he ltter was
then handed baok to him. '

street program to Mike Mergens, who specializes in small road projeets and has
the proper equipment therefor to do some jobs for the village, under his personal
su.pervision. He said Mergens would do it at from 1/3 to 1/2 1U1der the county's
eurrent estimate. After discussion the oOUIlCil by motion of JlCC1UDg seconded by
Cuwnings authorized. the Public Yiorks Chairman to have him prooeed 11:1. th the fol-
lowing in the latter's discretionl

ing weeds and. will conUIIIle until the job ill oomplete.
He also reported that weed cutting done last year IRIS not satiefaotory

mings seconded by McClung he was authorized to haTe the eutUng done in his 0_
diBcretion.

Public Welfare: MoClung reported he plans on oalling a meeting BOon. Be
invited B\1ggestions, and the olerk mentioned that the ~n City ~ailer Coach
Park may require inspection.

'!he mayor stated that Building Inspector Hurlbert had reparted to him
the ease of a trailer with lean-to to which the owner proposed to add a porch and
was stopped by him, and also that neighbors were complaining of slop being thrown
around it; withou:t motion this 1II8S re1'erred to the Public Safety Committee be-
cause of pOSSible violation of building code.

Finance: Ch, lloepner reall. m1lll11.tes of the Finance Committee meeting held
June 21st. In this cOllllection the council tacit17 agreed that the county's
credit for 19.52 _s in addition to the $7500.00 bud-get, DeLange said the credit
was intended for culvert clean-out, snow d: ice removal, and the $7500.00 for
new construction or work.

'!he matter of ilJCreasing the clerk's salary was discu.sed at some length
and again tabled by the mayor.
TILLAGE ATTORNEY: !!he clerk handell. the mayor letter dated Jime 19th from
Clayton J. Ie Fevere of the firm of Kel17 8: Ie Fevere, Mi:nneapo11 s, (attorney
for Lauderdale) quoting rates from which he real!. aloud the portion beginning with
the rates to the ,ani thereof; because his rates are higher than some others
quoted previ0U8~, ancl also because he is otherwise engaged on our 1I0nday meet-
ing nights, the clerk is to rep~ to him aocording~ and file the letter.
