MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF ARDEN HILLS
Tuesday, February 24, 1953
The meetin~ was called to order at 8:05 P.M. by Mayor Cummings.

Roll Call: Cummings, DeLange, McClung; uldlow present, Mack
absent. There being a quor'lJ11 present, the Council proceeded with
transactions of business as follows:
The minutes of the special meeting of February 16, 1953 were
read by the clerk. DeLange moved and McClung seconded a motion
the minutes be approved as read - carried.
Mr. George Salitros presented the Council with last year's pre-
mium receipts for insurance coverage on his automobile.
Claims #244 - #249 inclusive were read by the clerk. McClung
moved and DeLange seconded a motion that above claims be approved -
carried.
Reports of Standing Committees:
Finance - No report.
Public Safety - Chairman'McClung gave a resume of the February 23
meeting of the co~ittee. Three members VTere present. It was
suggested that a survey be made to deteI'mine "ihere arc lights
might best be instelleiL Several recol1lJ11endations were made as
follows: improve enforcement of laws controlling taverns, look
into the possibility of adopting S~l'l.e laws covering tavern opera-
tion as the county, and make police officers of the constables.
McClung moved and DeLanr's ssconded a notion that the two Constables
each be paid a salary ot: $75.00 and a car allowan'ce of $25.00 for
the month of March 1953 - carried.
McCluni>; l'loved and DeLanp:e seconded a motion that the tVTO Constables
submi t monthly reports of vlOrk done, hrs. per' day and approximate
mileage. - carried.

Tom Schifsky, operator of SChifsky's Dumping Grounds, ,appeared
before the Council to request a payment be made for dumping done by
residents of the Village - charge to be made on the basis of the
1952 figures of 297 taxable buildinr,s within the Village limits.
After discussion DeLange made a motion and Ludlow seconded that
SChifsky's be designated the dumping groundS for the Village, and
that they be paid at the rate of $.25 per taxable building - to be
paid April 1, 1953 and to cover the periOd until April 1, 1954.
Notice of such acion to be inserted in the Rose Tribune. Motion
carried.

Public Works _ Chairman DeLange reported that load limit signs
would soon be set up on the roads and suggested that notices be
inserted in the Rose Tribune and Pioneer Press warning residents
of the Village to bring in fuel and building supplies before the
limits go into effect. He reported that the county puts up the
signs on a rental basis. McClung moved and Ludlow seconded a
motion that the load limit signs"be placed on the same basis as
in the spring of 1952. - carried.
McClung moved and Ludlow seconded a motion" that DeLange be
appointed weed inspector for the year 1953. - carried.
Public Welfare - No report.
Civil Defense - No report.
Clerk - No renort.
Treasurer's Report _ The ~reasurer reported a balance of about
$7000.
The Justice of the Peace submitted his report for the month.
McClung moved and DeLange seconded a motion that the maps of
the proposed new highways to go through the Village should be
referred to the Connittees on Planninf~ a~d Public Works - carried.
Mayor Cummings read the resolution accompanying the maps.
The Village Attorney reported regarding the zoning of land on
which Mr. Jack Sinna is requesting permission to build. The use
to which it would be put properly comes under the business zoning
classification. Rezoning would not be necessary. The Plap~ing
COlTll11ittee will consider the request for permit.
De Lang moved and McClung seconded a motion that Mr. Glen Peterson's
name be submitted for the job of Village Assessor - carried.
The Clerk read for the second time the ordinance prOhibiting the
use of basement homes for human habitation. After amendments were
offered DeLange moved and McClmlg seconded a motion that the
ordinance be accepted - carried.
. The Clerk read for the first time the ordinance regarding platting
of property within the Village. Changes were suggested and noted.
The Clerk read a letter to ]\T. W. Bell Telephone Co. regarding the
chahgin",; of Village listi.ngs.
