MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING

Tuesday, June 1, 1954
The meeting was called to order at 8:27 P.M. by Mayor Ashbach.
Roll Call: Present - Ashbach, Mc Clung, Mack, Ludlow
Absent - De Lange
The minutes of the April 26th meeting were read by the clerk.
Mack moved said minutes should include a statement to the effect
that no~recompense for mileage should be paid to Special Police
Officer Mc Neil by the Village of Arden Hills. There was no
second to the motion. The minutes stood approved as read,
The minutes of the special meeting of Tuesday, May 11, were
read by the clerk. There were no additions or corrections. The
minutes stood approved as read.
Mr. Bob Nelson of Sauers Construction Co. and Mr. S. J. Krannak
appeared to ask the council if the general outline of the pro~
posed plat of Valentine Heights #2 located on Co. Rd, F & T.H, #10
was acceptable. They were advised the plat would be submitted to
the planning cOFnittee for a report at the next regular meeting
of the counciL
Finance - The clerk reported a treasury balance of $13,811.06
as of June 1, 1954.
Public Safety * Ch. Mc Clung moved that Mr. V. L. Wever be
appointed Chief of Police of the Village of Arden Hills at'a
compensation for wages and car allowance not to exceed-$25.00
per mo, Such appointment to be effective as of June 1, 1954
and to run until such time as the appointment might be re-
scinded by the council. Mack seconded the motion. The motion
carried unanimously. The mayor added a note of commendation to
the other council members for their appointment of a chief of
police.
PUBLic Works - Bills were submitted to the clerk for payment.
Traffic signs are to be put up where needed. A survey on sp~ed
will be made in the village.

Public Welfare - Ch. Mack reported that new owners of Lakeview
Terrace Club had indicated they would take care of the cess
pool drainage prOblem.
Ludlow moved Mack be authorized to purchase a plaque commemora-
ting the first mayor of the village, Walter Cummings, at a cost
not to exceed $65.00. Mc Clung seconded the motion which

carried unanimously.

The mayor read a XR~~Br from Senator Edward Thye informing former
mayor, Cummings, of a hearing in Washington on a bill to provide
for payments by the Federal Government to local taxing units
adversely affected by Federal acquisition, ovmership, or use of
defense production facilities. After discussion Mc Clung moved
the mayor be authorized to expend such SQffiS as may be necessary
to send a representative of the village ~o appear at the above
mentioned hearing. Mack seconded - the motion carried.
John Carley submitted~ a road plan and letter for action by the
planning committee.
Claims #418 thru #431 were read by the clerk. Ludlow moved and
Mack seconded a motion the claims be approved - carried.
Ludlow moved and Mc Clunr;~ 8 motion accepting the second reading
of the Burning Ordinance - carried.
Mc Clung moved and Mack seconded a motion accepting the first
reading of the Boating Ordinance - carried.
The ordinance on dogs was referred to the co~mittee on pUblic
safety.
Study of a leaky load limit was referred to the committee on
public welfare.
A letter from the Ordinance Dept. of the Federal Government was
read in which they stated that to allow the Village of Arden
Hills to connect with the sewage disposal system for the Twin
City Arsenal at some future date, would seriously jepordise the
system. A copy of the letter was filed with the clerk.
Mc Clung moved and Ludlow seconded a motion the meeting be ad-
journed - carried. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 P.M.
