The meeting was called to order at 8:34 P.lit. by Mayor Ashbach.
Roll Call: Ashbach, DeLange. Hoyt. present.
Stromquist, absent.
The minutes of the regular meeting of Dec. 31, 1956 were read and
approved.

Lawrende H. Winfrey. Patrick McEnroe and Jerome Wasielewski were sworn
into office of Trustee, Justice of the Peace and Constable respectively
by Village Attorney Vincent Courtney.
Gerry Goodham, 1395 Almond Ave.. st. Paul representing the "Grotto"
appeared concerning potential purchase of the Lakeview Terrace from 1~.
Arneson for use as a private club. The consideration reqQested concerns
the need for a change in the zoning for this use and also the Council's
consideration .fm of the group for a 3.2 beer license. The present
option on the property has about 25 days to run.
Donald Roberts. 3597 Arcwood Road, White J3earappeared representing Roberts
Construction Company. present owners of the proposed plats Shorewood Hills
3 & 4. Details for completing requirements were discussed. These are to
be presented at the next Council meeting and are as follows:
Deed of upplatted ground North of the plat to the Village.
Bon~ for road construction.
List of building restrictions.
Byron DeLange was nominated for Acting MaYDr by Hoyt. Elected.
The .following COlllL'littee chairmanships wer'e appointed by Mayor Ashbach:
Lorraine Stroffiquist- Finance Coramittee
B. J. DeLange- PUBLIC Works Committee
L. H. Winfrey- Public Safety Committee
Harvey Hoyt.- Public Welfare Committee
Victor Weber was nominated for Police Chief by DeLange. Approved.
Dr. lvI.S. Sekhon was appointed Health Officer by JiJayor Ashbach.
Vincent Courtney presented contracts f'or fire protection. Hoyt moved
that the resolution l'ead by Er. Courtney concel'ning fire protection
contracts be passed. Motion was seconded by Delange and passed.
. 3~. Courtney presented a revision of the Building Code concerning permits.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 P.M.

At a Special Meeting of the Council of the Village of Arden Hills held
,
at the Village Hall on the second day of January, 1957, consideration was
given ~o a proposed Fire Protection Contract with the Lake Johanna Volunteer
Fire Oepartment. Inc.. for the years 1957 and 1958, a fom of the Contract
was submitted by the Village Attorney, the same was considered and discussed,
and upon motion duly made and seconded, the following Resolution was unani-
mously passed. to-wit:
RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Clerk of the Village be and they
hereby are authorized to enter into a Fire Protection Contract
with Lake Johanna Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., covering
fire protection services to be rendered the Village of Arden
Hills during the years 1957 and 1958, pursuant to the fom of
Contract which has been prepared by the Village Attorney and
submitted to the Council for approval this date.
The above is a true and correct excerpt from the Minutes of the Special
Meeting of the Village Council held on January 2. 1957.
