COlNCIL OJ:' TEE VILLAGE OF ARDEN HILLS
Monday, January 28, 1957
The meeting was called to order by N~yor Ashbach at 8:00 P.M.
Roll CaLL: All Council members and Attorney present.
The minutes of the January 2, 1957 regular meeting and the January 15
special meeting were read by Cler'k and approved by the Council.
.N~S. Stromquist was sworn into office of Clerk by Village Attorney, Mr.
Courtney.
Mr. Rysgaad appeared before Council concerning the Zilliox Plat, questioning
whether or not the pla t has been filed and the ped'ormance bond turned in,
and the wor'k on the roads c omple ted, and if not, wha t action can be taken
to get it done. Upon motion by Delange, seconded by Winfrey, 1~. Courtney
will write to 1tr. Stepnitz in regard to 1tr. Rysgaad's request. Motion passed
Ntr. Thompson, representing !as. Charlotte Daley appeared and requested
the Council to reconsider the closing of the Daley dog kennel. After
Council discussion, HoS.t moved and Stromquist seconded t.'le motion that t;1.e
polic e Chief and the Public Safety C05.mi t tee meet wi th II~. Thomps on and
try to work out a solution to the problem, and if a common ground agreement
cannot be reached by the next meeting of the Council, action will be taken
to close the kennel. Motion nassed.

Public Examiner.
FUBLIC SAFETY: No report.
PUBLIC 'HOEKS: I!ll'. Delange s ta ted too t he will ask re s idents of Arden Hills
#1 to choose a name other than Ridgewood Lane for the service drive between
Siems Court and Ridgewood Road.
PUBLIC WBLF~RE: The letter from Roy Owen, Bldg. Insp. in regard to
c olllpar is on of our roui lding Code and our Zoning Ordinance was read. Dr.
Ho:;t will check further into the matter.

.CIVIL DE:8'LiJSE: Mr'. Hunt, Civil Defense Directo1', r'eported that OU1' proposed
civil defense program should get some publicity. Ivlr. 'Ninfrey will have
some civil defense material published in the Rose 'rribune. ;\i1'. 'Neber,
Police ChilllH stated 'Ghat a civil defense training class is to be started in
New Brightonand will be held one night per week for eight weeks. Any Arden
Hills residents interested are requested to attend the classes. The class
will ~e government sponsored if at least 32 people attend the class.

requesting a liquor license if they are to be granted. The request was
filed with Clerk records. -

Upon motion by Hoyt, seco"ded by DeLange, two members of a tnree member
Appeals Committee ~ approved as follows: kilrS. Margaret Stienkraus, chair-
man, and Gene A. Richter. Passed.
Mayor Ashuach sta"Ged that he will fill the third vacancy by the next meeting.

liquor question._
,\\a;/or Ashbach reported on a meeti g of suburban officials held in Roseville.
The group will try to set up a non-controversial road allotment agreement
to present to the legislature.
I;Ir. ."-shbech reported that he has rec!.eved letters from Senator Humphrey and
from Eu(!;ene }ilcCarthy in re,~a1'd to the I'win Cities Arsenal, and that the
present operations at the arsenal seem to be slowing down.
:,;11'. Ashbach reported on a meeting of Arden Hills and I"ounds View officials in
regard to the Neamy drainage problem. 'rhe Attorney stated that Jlsden Hills
has no legal repsonsibility i!J t.:le case, and that the residents could not
be taxed fer any lcayment toward the damage a. l'ilayor Ashbach will inform
the :Nearnys that Arden Hills has no legal r'esponsibility ia the case.
ClERK'S REPORT: A petition requesting the rezoning of land on Cleveland
Avenue fI'esented by Iill'. ;iIazchiak wa s given to YiI'. Courtney to check.
A price of 0.50 each was set for copies of the Ardeh Hills Zoning Ordinance
and map.
The licllnse request of' Sam Ciresi for Hillside .l'avern was given Council
consideration. NIotion was made by Hoyt, seconded by DeLange that Lr.
Ciresi's check be returned and that he be i:Scomed that his application for
licenses for Hillside Tavern will not be considered until a report is
recieved by our Village Health Officer that the building and grounds are
in proper condition. illotion passed.
. AT'TOrmEY'S HEPOHT: :Vr. Courtney stated that to date we have not recieved the
deed to the propeosed parksite for Shorewood Hills 3, so no actioD was
taken on the plat.
Claims 983 thru 1005 were read by the Clerk and approved by the Council.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.li,.
