There has been no new appointment to that pos:ition. Hr. Ralph Hunt is the Civil Defense Director for Arden Hills. llr. Henry Crepeau. l:ayor Ashbach reported on the 1957 aD~ual village budget, and the proposed 1958 budget, which is to have Council approval by SepteIlber 30, 1957. The Hayor stated th8.t to date our village roads have been oil surfaced, but that perhaps the time has come to consider a plan to put on amore permanent surface on SODe of the roads. He suggested ~ possible plan for financing the project of the village paying a certain portion, and the restdents .owning adjoining property betng assessed for a portion of the cost. No action Has taken on the request to lower Edgewater Ave. Mayor Ashbach "ill check into the possj_bili ty of getting a reduction on the proposed cost of the pro:tject by salvaging some of the material that vould be removed. Mrs. Stromquist presented the administrative ~~d general proposed 1958 budget. The propesed budget allOiled public office hours for the Clerk at the Village Hall tI'To (2) half days a \leek from March 1 thru December, if needed. ;:>90 Mr. Winfrey presented the proposed budget for the Public Safety Corr~ittee. This budget proposed a v.w year contract Ifith LaIce Johanna Fi.re Dept. at $3200.00 per year, and salary increases for Police Chief and the 3 village police men. Mr. jmdr~1 KMehn inquired as to whether minutes of the Village Council meetings could be ~ublished in Rose Tribune. Clerk informed Mr. Koehn the matter was considered at one time and cost seemed prohibitive. Mr. Bell, publisher of New Brighton Bulletin offered to print report on village council meetings in his paper free of charge to village. Hr. vHnfrey suggested ePerhaps Rose Tribune would also do so. Clerk to check Hith Rose Tribune. Hr. Donald Stecker inquired about the matter of village liquor licenses. Mayor Ashbach read aquestionier made by Mr. Read. No action was taken. FINANCE COIvilHTTEE: Clerk reported a balance in treasury of $16,895.00. PUBLIC SAFETY COHtHTTEE: Hr. Winfrey recol1unended the purchase of a squad car. He is to discuss the matter with Mounds View Township officials in regard to the car they have for sale. Mr. Carley, Engineer, reported that the road grades for Johanna narrows as submitted are satisfactory. Upon motion by Winfrey, seconded by Stromquist, preliminary approval on road grades as submitted by Mr. Carley was given for Johanna narrows p~. Motion passed. A description tlf a public easment to West Lake Johanna was given rv:r. Carley to check into. MAYORS REPORT: Hr. Ashbach renorted that Mr. Bannister of Bannister Engineering Company is preparing information in regard to sewer hook-up requested by Arsenal offici~ls. Hr. Ashbach reported the appointment of Hrs. Janet Lagerstrom as Chairman of United Nations week activities for Arden Hills. The 1956 annual report of the Ramsey County Nursing Service was filed with clerk records. A letter was read by Mayor Ashbach in regards to County ditches. Upon motion by Stromquist, seconded by Ashbach, Mr. Winfrey was appointed as representative for Arden Hills to the County Governmental Study Commission. Hotion passed. No action was tcl{en on a replacement for Trustee DeLange on the Council. eMrs. Leon Sabine stated that she felt the Council should raise their present salaries, as the present salaries were set up when the villa;o was originally incorporated and the work and time involved is now much increased. No action was taken. Clerk was requBsted to put a notice in Rose Tribune announcing the need for anew Building Inspector. Applications to be sent to Dr. Hoyt before September 15. CLSRKS REPORT: The minutes of the last Board of Appeals meeting as submitted by Chairman-Mrs. steinkraus were presented to council members. Hrs. ;"01 Steinkraus stated she felt it to be advantageous to the village to get the entire village under one Zoning Ordinance and map as soon as possible. Mayor Ashbach suggested the possiblity of the appointment of a committee to work with Dr. Hoyt to complete the Zoning Ordinance and map. Mrs. Stienkraus inquired as to whether the present map could be brought to date with new area zoned as they were under Mounds View, then given to Committee to study and change if necessary. Attorney was requested to check into the matter. . Upon motion by Ashbach, Johnson was approved as Notion passed. seconded by Winfrey, the appointment of Mrs. Rita assistant to Clerk to help with typing and posting. Stromquist present Council with copies of Conditional Use Permit form as sent to Grotto Club. A letter from the County Auditors office in regard to roads was read by Clerk. Mayor Ashbach took letter for study by himself and Engineer Carley and will report back to COUl1ci1. Clerk reported publication of the Highway Ordinance ammendment. Upon motion by Winfrey, seconded by AShbach, Clerk was authorized to order a set of maps of Arden Hills from the County Assessors office. Motion passed. Claims 1128 thru 111,5 were read by Clerk end approved by the Council. Claims 1108, 1109 and 1127 were declared void. The meeting was adjourned at 11:20 P.I1. ~~4 G...e.o-.J ~ Robert O.
