Councilman Hollenhorst reported that the Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday, June 6, 1972, at 8:00 p.m., at the Village Hall, on the proposed tower to be located at County Road F and Hemline Avenue. 4. The Council agreed with the recommendations and asked Clerk Administrator to refer the matter to Attorney Courtney to draft the necessary documents to put the change Into effect as of Janu<2ry, I, 1973. Water I~~rovement No. 72-2 Mr. Henderson reported that the Finance Committee recommends exploring the possibility of 8 HUO grant for the north end water project. Mayor Crepeau stated that he and Mrs. Stromquist recently dlsc~sse~'federal aids and grants, which might be available In other fields. He suggested that a Finance Committee subcommittee be for~~d to stUdy all grants which Tosy be available In all Village areas, and requ~sted that help be given from the administrative staff, it needed on the project. COUNCILMAN STANLEY OLMEN, PUblIc Works .~- i. ~allltenance Employees Supt. Johansen asked authority to hire T~U Temporary employees for the summer months. Motion was made by Olman, seconded by Hollenhorst, that two men be hired, and that the rate of pay for new employees be $2.25-$2.50 per hour, with $3.00 per hour authorized, If absolutely necessary. Motion carried unanimOUSly. Councllman Herrick reported that Steve Zehm wi II be available for such work Tor the summer season. Parks Employee Mr. Herrick re~orted that th~Parks and Recreation Committee are advertising for an employee for that department. Mr. Herrick reported that the Little Lakes Little League will rake and lay sod at Va'entlne Park and the Village In turn will allow them to reserve use of the ballfield at specified times for their bailgames. Village Hall Landscaping A proposal, dated May 15, 1972, from Dennis Adams for landscape plans for the Village Hall and MaIntenance Building was pre- sented. Motion was made by Herrick, seconded by Hollenhorst, that the proposal be approved as submitted; motion carried unanimously. . Clerk Administrator to ask Mr. Adams to proceed in accordance with the proposal; cost of land~cape planner end the actual proJect not to exceed $6,000, all budgeted. 4. To keep balls from hitting their yard and house, a 20' fence project, estimated at $2,000-$3,000, will be needed. CREPEAU, JR., Ganeral Government, Public Safe~y I. Minnesota Hlghw~y Department, Letter. dated May I, 1972 The letter and attached traffic count records were discussed. The Arden Hills police department will conduct some Independ- ent traffIc counts for our records. . The Council agreed that a letter should be sent reiterating our long rungs Intention that (I) Arden Hills doas not approve the Highway 51 plans, making 51 Dnd Snelling a major Inter- section, Ilnd (2) that we feel the Highway Dept. should have some means of slowing traffic In that vicinity to 50 mph. The Council noted the small number of accidents listed at the Intersoctlon, taken from figures submitted with the May I letter, and questioned the need for signalization. Mayor and Clerk Administrator to compose letter to Highway Department following Arden Hills traffic survey. 2. Meetln!ls Annual Meeting, Metro league of Municipalities Councilman Hollenhorst will attend the meetIng. He asked for Council Input on the following legislative proposals: Utility Regulations, Environment, Transportation, Land Use, Housing, Government Structure and Government Finance. The meeting will ., be Thursday, June 8. Metro Sawer CouncilMan Henderson to attend a Metro Council meeting relating to Metro Sewe~ 5-year budget and Metro sewer benefits. Sllfety Award Mayor Crepeau presented a 1971 Meritorious Achievement Award to Arden Hili,s from the Minnesota Safety Council, Inc., given In recognition of outstanding accident prevention performance In traffic safety education and enforcement. 3. AdmInistrative Office Employee Mayor Crepeau presented a request from the Clerk Administrator to hire a temporary office employee for a 12-week period, needed because of extra summar season work and 8 scheduled employee vacations. The Council agreed to the request, asking that employee be hired at minimum wage, If possible. CLERK ADMINISTRATOR LORRAINE STROMQUIST I.
