Discussion:
1. Introductions
2 . Staff informed the Task Force as to what economic
development tools were available in Arden Hills.
Comments were made that we need to be sure to inform
businesses what is available and that we are here to
help; not to be burdensome.
3 . Minutes from the August 10, 1993 meeting were approved.
4 . Mission Statement: The Task Force discussed the proposed
mission statement prepared by staff and Ms. Aplikowski.
Ms. Aplikowski reminded the group that her goal was to
have the Economic Development Committee in place by
January 1, 1994 . She discussed the rationale on why the
Committee was desired and that her goal is to see the
Committee function as a working advisory board, not just
a public relations board. The primary function is to
work on business retention.
The Task Force discussed what the quality of businesses
should be. Beverly would like the Task Force to do a
survey of area businesses. The Task Force approved a
revised mission statement which reads as follows:
"The mission of the Economic Development Committee
shall be to represent the community, assist local
business, and to advise the City Council and
Planning Commission. This would be accomplished
through:
* Working to provide a favorable climate for
development and redevelopment.
* Retention and expansion of existing businesses.
* Attraction of new business activities.
