RESOLUTION No. 04-18
RESOLUTION DIRECTING STAFF TO COORDINATE WITH THE NECESSARY ELECTED
OFFICIALS AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON RADlONUCLlDE
CONTAMINATION AND THE CURRENT STATUS OF DECONTAMINATION EFFORTS AT THE
TWIN CITIES ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT.
WHEREAS, Alliant Techsystems, the current defense contractor at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition
Plant (TCAAP), produced medium caliber ammunition with depleted uranium within Building 502 at TCAAP;
and
WHEREAS, this work was done under a license provided by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has jurisdiction and regulatory authority over the use
and any necessary decontamination associated with the use of depleted uranium on the site; and
WHEREAS, the TCAAP Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) has recently facilitated public forums to
discuss the status of existing radionuclide contamination and decontamination efforts; and
WHEREAS, during the course of the forums it was indicated that the site has been decontaminated and
the waste will be shipped off site next spring; and
WHEREAS, further information, documentation, and analysis is needed to ascertain the potential
impacts to the site; and
WHEREAS, it is in the City's interest to ensure that the site has been successfully decontaminated.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arden Hills, Minnesota,
that staff is directed to coordinate with Alliant Tech; the necessary elected officials; and appropriate federal
agencies, particularly the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, to provide information on radionuclide contamination
and current status of decontamination efforts at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant.
