JOINT PARKS, TRAILS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
AND PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
TUESDAY, JULY 27, 2004 7:00 P.M.
ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL

1. CALL TO ORDER
The July 27,2004 joint meeting of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee and the Planning
Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
PTRC MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Bill Henry, Committee Members Jim Crassweller, Don
Messerly, Rich Straumann, Roberta Thompson, Joani Werner and Steve Zilmer.
PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair David Sand, Commission
Members Ken Bezdicek, Fran Holmes, Clayton Larson, Liz Modesette, Megan Ricke,
Clayton Zimmerman,
. OTHERS PRESENT: Tom Moore, Director Operations & Maintenance; Peter Hellegers,
Planner; and Lois Rem, City Council Liaison;
2. GATEWAY SIGNS
Participants discussed the history of intentions and planning for gateway signs for the city and
reviewed current proposals for signs.
MOTION: A motion was made and seconded to recommend that the City erect two
monument signs - one on the southwest comer of Highway 96 and Lexington, and
the second on the northeast corner of Cleveland and County Road D.
The motion carried unanimously.
3. OTHER PROJECTS
Discussion of other topics resulted in the following conclusion: trail resurfacing should be
approached as scheduled maintenance, with funds invested by the City in the same approach that
is used to resurface streets.
The surface of the Diagonal Trail (a.k.a. Arden Hills Trail) and that of the trail around Hazelnut
Park should be inspected with an eye toward resurfacing major portions each year.
. The PTRC will discuss how best to provide trash receptacles along trails in the City.

The PTRC and the Planning commission will continue to correspond and to seek opportunities
for collaboration.
Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
