SUPPORTING SENATE FILE 1570 PERMITTING AN
EXEMPTION FROM FEDERAL FAIR LABOR STANDARDS
OVERTIME PAY REQUIREMENTS FOR CITIES

WHEREAS, S. 1570 will permit the use of compensa-
tory time off In lieu of overtime compensation, and
WHEREAS, the City of Arden HII Is will experience
financial constraints unless municipalities are exempted
from the Federal Fair Standards overtime pay requlre~ents,
and
WHEREAS, taxpayers will have to pay time and one
half for overtime without receiving additional services In
return, unless municipalities are exempted from the over-
time pay requirements, and
WHEREAS, most public employees prefer to have the
option of taking compensatory time In lieu of overtime pay.
and
WHEREAS, S. 1570 would provide permanent financial
relief to municipalities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Arden Hills
Council urges your support of Senate File 1570 so that Arden
Hills can continue providing the most public service with
the fewest tax dollars.
Passed by the Arden Hills Council this 9th day of
September, 1985.
