HomeMy WebLinkAbout85-023 STATE OF MINNESOTA COUNTY OF RAMSEY CITY OF ARDEN HILLS Resolution No. 85-23 OPPOSING PUBLIC BOAT ACCESS AND CHEMICAL TREATMENT ON LAKE JOSEPHINE . WHEREAS, The Rice Creek Watershed District has made application to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a grant to complete projects in the district which included restoration of County Ditch 4 and a restoration project on Lake Josephine, and WHEREAS, this is being processed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (PCA) , and WHEREAS, at a meeting on January 31, 1985, the PCA representative has stated that all grants would be conditional on a public boat access on Lake Josephine, and WHEREAS, the DNR stated that Lake Josephine is on their list for obtaining a public boat access, and WHEREAS, the Arden Hills City Council has been studying the matter, and representatives of the City have attended meetings with the state and local agencies and with concerned citizens living on Lake Josephine, and WHEREAS, the City Council received a petition on May 13, 1985, signed by 59 Arden Hills residents, opposing the lake restoration and the public boat access, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Arden Hills City Council opposes the installation of a public boat access on Lake Josephine for safety reasons because of the size and depth of the lake and lack of ability to control the added traffic, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Arden Hills City Council opposes treatment of the lake with calcium nitrate which is considered to be experimental with no proof of its effectiveness, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Arden Hills City Council opposes the fish kill which it deemed unnecessary.
