The Minutes of the Regular Council Meeting of NOVember 29, 1971 were
approved as amended.
The Minutes of the Special Council Meeting of December 7, 1971 were
approved as submitted.

Mr. Roy Anderson, President of the Arden Hi lIs Sportsman Club, ap~eared
on behalf of the club. He asked that the property owned by the club
described as Lot I, Block 5, Shady Oaks Addition, be'rezoned from R-I
to L-B, and that a Special Use PsnnU b(~ ap~roved "rO al 'O~I the cons','ruc-
tion and operation of a clubhouse on the property.
Mr. 'Anderson read a prepared statement,(dated December '3, 1971, and
on file at the Virlage office) which detailed the history of the
SportSfilan Club and i i"5 act I v j t j as I n the commun i ty. He further out lined
the past activities of the club in its acquisition of the property
j nvo I ved, and the past cHarts by club members ""0 obta i n a perm i t "rO
construct a clubhouse on the property.
He listed reasons to show that the proposed clubhouse would be an
asset to the area and would not cause adjoining property va~~e9 .to
decline.
Mr, Dick Nielson, clubmsmber and teacher from Mounds View HighSchooi,
was Introduced. He described the site plan and building design. He
said the building and grounds will be designed and landscaped to blend
with natural surroundlng5.~hat the ciub Is considering a plan fpr a
n~ture Melklng trail, and that the club intends to proper~y maintain
The property.
Mr. Anderson submitted a petition containing 239 names, which stated
t~at they ware in favor of allowing the Arden Hi I Is Sportsman C1ub to
build the proposed ~lubhouSB.
Mayor Crepeau then asked for questions from the f~oor and from Council
members.

The Counel I discussed the Ra~sey County Open Space program, and the
Bction of the County Board of November 27, !971, to acquire a 53-acre
open space site, which Included the Sportsman Club property. The
Council Indlcatod concern that the c'ub proposaj might jeopardIze the
County land acquisition plan.
Mr. Anderson said that, to date~ theciub has not been approached by
the County concerning property acquisition. He further stated that he
feit the proposed club house would be compatiblo to the open space usa
of the adjoining land.
