- This was a State Mandated system, but federal grants were obtained by the county and county bonding monies were allocated to help pay
for the cost of these radios. Without the financial assistance the cost would have been $29,787.01 to the City.

SUBJECT: Payment to Ramsey County Sheriff for City's cost of 800MHz radios
BACKGROUND
The State of Minnesota mandated that police and fire communications be upgrade to the
800MHz system. The Ramsey County Sheriff has now completed this transition. In December,
2006, the Sheriffs Department sent out cost information to each contract city.
DISCUSSION
The Sheriff s department formulated a cost allocation to each contract city (see attached
schedule). 70 radio units were purchased for contract city use that were allocated a
reimbursement of$I,995 perradio from federal grant funds received and county bonds. (Costs
ofthe various types ofradio units varied by model, see attached schedule).
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
Based on the attached allocation schedule, Arden Hills portion is 15% of the total contract city
cost for the 70 radio units. This results in a cost of$8,839.52 for the radios and $680.40 in
annual maintenance fees.
CITY STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Motion to Approve payment to Ramsey County in the amount of$8,839.52 from the capital
equipment budget for the City's share of the 800 MHz radio system.
