TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator FROM: Schawn Johnson, Assistant City Administrator SUBJECT: Motion to Approve Revisions to the Resignation Section of the City's Personnel Policy Backl!round Recently City staffs reviewed the City's personnel policy and are recommending the following changes to the City's personnel policy: City staff is recommending that the following language be removed from the Resignation section of the City's personnel policy: Resil!nations. Employee resignations must be submitted in writing to the City Administrator. For an employee to leave in good standing, notice must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the effective date of the resignation and the resignation must be for reasons other than anticipation of or settlement of a disciplinary action. Failure to give proper notice may result in the forfeiture of accumulated Personal Time Off and other benefits and may impact future employment by the Employer. Unauthorized absence from work for a period of three (3) working days will be deemed a resignation without benefits. City staff is recommending that the following language be adopted in the Resignation section of the City's personnel policy: Resil!nations. Employee resignations must be submitted in writing to the City Administrator. Any employee wishing to resign from City service, in good standing, shall file with the Assistant City Administrator and/or department head, at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to separation, a written resignation stating the effective date thereof. The employee's termination date must be a day worked, not a paid leave day. Failure to give proper notice may result in the forfeiture of accumulated Personal Time Off and other benefits and may impact future employment by the Employer. Unauthorized absence from work for a period of three (3) working days will be deemed a resignation without benefits.
